- Dissolve yeast in water. Mix salt, sugar, herbs and shortening. Finely shop or possibly grind herbs before adding. Blend in 1/2 c. flour. Add in remaining flour as needed to create a soft dough. Let rise 1 1/2 hrs. Form into 18 inch roll. Let rise 1 hour. Brush with water. Sprinkle seeds on top. Bake at 425 degrees for 20 to 30 min. Note: Exceptionally delicious served with warm soup!
