Homemade Limoncello

I never really got the Limoncello hype. Probably because I had never had it before. Then, I found some Frieda’s Meyer Lemons at our local Shop-Rite and after asking fans on my facebook page, I decided to try my hand at making some of my own. Thank you to a co-worker Jessica who suggested this or I probably would have never tried it! I love the lovely yellow color and aren’t the limoncello glasses absolutely adorable? I found those at Marshall’s for only 4.99 for the set of 3. I can always count on finding some great kitchen/bar finds at Marshall’s!

We love the Goose but Tito’s is just as good and lest costly!

I found a few other containers at The Christmas Tree Shop. One I took to work filled with this treat to share with Jessica for giving me the suggestion and the other I filled and put in the fridge. Last night Grumpy pulled it out of the fridge, held it up for me to see, and told me it looked pretty. LOL. He won’t drink it though. He’s not a huge lemon fan unless I am making my Lemon Swirled Cheescake.

I found a recipe on allrecipes.com that I decided to use as a guide. I am not a very big fan of really sweet drinks, so I adapted the amount of sugar and I went with the number of lemons that I got in my bag (6 lemons). I would probably use even less sugar next time around because even though I reduced it some, it still came out a little on the sweeter side for me. I will write the recipe as I made it, but for future reference, I would go with only 2 cups of sugar.

On day 6, bring water and to a boil and simmer for 15 minutes. Let cool overnight.

On day 7, strain the vodka mixture and add the sugar water. Distribute into pretty little clear glass bottles
