Receta Homemade Sweet and Sour Mix (and some Spicy Margaritas)
by Eliot

It is 6:30 p.m. on Sunday evening as I type this. I just had a frightening realization that it is usually around this time that Group C posts for Secret Recipe Club.

YOWZA! Tomorrow is Group C’s post day.

DOH! I have SteakNPotatoes Kinda Gurl this month and I have totally spaced!

Wow—I need an adult beverage before I go any further.

Done. I found this recipe on Desiree’s site. It totally did the trick to kick-start me back into reality and allow me able to make the post today.

Homemade Sour Mix

Combine the sugar and 1 and 1/2 cups water in a saucepan. Bring to a simmer until the sugar dissolves. Remove from the heat and cool. Add the lemon and lime juice. Chill until ready to use.

*Note: You will not use all of the Homemade Sour Mix for one margarita, as the recipe for Homemade Sour Mix yields 28 ounces and you only need 3 ounces per margarita. You will have some leftover for more margaritas

Luckily, I had one jalapeno left from the pre-freeze garden harvest and I plucked a lime from our lime tree in the greenhouse.

I love this homemade sour mix recipe. To continue our gift giving posts for Christmas 2013, I think it would make a great gift with a nice bottle of tequila.

A Kick Start Margarita for When You Totally Space for SRC Postings

(Slightly adapted from Roasted Jalapeno Margarita from SteakNPotatoes Gurl)

1 jalapeno

crushed ice

3 oz. Homemade Sour Mix, recipe follows

2 oz. tequila

1 lime, cut into wedges and/or slices

salt for rim, if desired

Over a hot grill or stovetop burner, roast the jalapeno until lightly blistered and fragrant. Slice into 1/4 inch thick slices.

In a cocktail shaker, add 2 (or more) slices roasted jalapeno, ice, Homemade Sour Mix, tequila, and juice of 1 lime wedge. Shake. Rim a glass with the wedge of a lime and dip in salt. Serve with ice. Garnish with lime slice and jalapeno slice.

Just what I needed.

Thank you, Desiree, and I apologize for almost forgetting about you! I have had some time since my panic last night and I have done a complete perusal of your site and you rock. I have found lots of great dishes to make like Tequila Marinated Chicken Tacos which would go perfect with this beverage.

Delicious and refreshing!

Please check out all of Group C’s posts today. I can’t wait to see what everyone has cooked up.

Thanks to our SRC hosts Jane, Sarah, Suzanne, and the fabulous Group C host, Debbi. They do a super fantastic job keeping us all organized, informed, and on track! Thank you, ladies! (Although, I think I will need a stronger reminder for the next round.) :)

Whew!
