Ingredientes

  • 1 lb dry pinto beans
  • 1 quart cool water (1 to 2)
  • 1/4 lb ham hock
  • 1 Tbsp. chili pwdr
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp cumin
  • 1/4 tsp oregano
  • 1 x clove chopped
  • 1 lrg onion minced
  • 1 tsp salt

Direcciones

  1. Wash beans and place in a large pot or possibly kettle. Add in water and remaining ingredients (except salt, that should be added 30 min before beans are done). Cover and simmer for 5 to 6 hrs. Check liquid level occasionally and add in more water (add in boiling water, never cool) as needed to keep beans covered. Jo, these are as good as pinto beans can get for the general palate, but can be spiced up by adding more garlic and/or possibly chili pwdr.
  2. This recipe works especially well in a crockpot. If cooked in a crockpot, you will need 1 quart of water and cook them on the low setting. It also may take a little longer than the 5 to 6 hrs
