Receta Hummus...
This is possibly one of the top five things I like to eat at 4:00 in the afternoon, you know, for happy hour...that time of day where there's a lull in the action...it's when I like to do the daily crossword puzzle in the paper...it's too early to make dinner and Oprah is on TV...so I make myself a mocktail and grab something to nosh on...hummus is the perfect snack. Hummus is traditionally made with chickpeas, also called garbanzo beans...but I've made it with white beans, too. This version is more of a traditional hummus, with garlic, lemon juice and seasonings...and yes, you will have garlic-breath if you eat this...very, very garlicky breath. The answer to garlic breath is to make sure everyone around you also has it...then everyone is offensive and no one gets offended, capice?
You can make this in a food processor or a blender - it's really easy and fast. This should come as no surprise to you, but the mister is not a fan of hummus. He thinks it looks like something the dog yakked up and the garlic is just too strong for his delicate palate...so when I make hummus I have it all to myself - as it should be.
This is what's for snack time today...and tomorrow...hummus with toasted pita bread. Make it. Embrace the garlic breath. It's good for what ails you.
- Hummus - Pots and Pins
- 1 can (15 oz.) garbanzo beans, rinsed and drained
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- juice from half of a large lemon
- salt and pepper to taste (I use at least 1/2 teaspoon each of salt and pepper)
Put all ingredients into a food processor or a blender and process until smooth.
Serve with toasted pita bread cut into triangles; also good with tortilla chips. Nakes 2 cups.
