%20have%20joined%20the%20EMM%20family%20since%20last%20October%20when%20I%20did.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20all%20know%20summer's%20favorite%20sweet%20treat%20is%20ice%20cream.%20It's%20an%20American%20classic%20that%20is%20almost%20a%20mascot%20of%20summer%20time.%20But%20with%20September%20upon%20us,%20does%20that%20mean%20we%20have%20to%20stop?%20I%20say%20heck%20no!%20Now,%20you%20are%20talking%20to%20an%20ice%20cream%20fanatic,%20so%20quite%20frankly,%20you'll%20find%20me%20in%20the%20Culver's%20drive%20through%20year%20round,%20but%20when%20I%20created%20this,%20I%20thought%20it%20was%20about%20time%20ice%20cream%20got%20an%20autumn%20flare%20added%20to%20it!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIf%20ice%20cream%20is%20the%20flavor%20mascot%20of%20summer,%20then%20pumpkin%20and%20apple%20have%20to%20be%20the%20ones%20for%20fall.%20Pumpkin%20spice%20everything%20is%20every%20where;%20and%20trips%20to%20the%20apple%20orchard%20are%20a%20favorite%20pastime.%20And%20once%20you're%20back%20home%20with%20those%20bushels%20of%20goodies,%20it%20is%20time%20to%20put%20them%20to%20good%20use.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThink%20about%20a%20big%20piece%20of%20warm%20apple%20pie,%20with%20a%20big%20scoop%20of%20vanilla%20ice%20cream%20on%20it.%20That%20will%20get%20you%20in%20the%20mood%20for%20this.%20It%20has%20all%20the%20same%20flavors,%20but%20in%20a%20new,%20fun,%20yummy%20twist.%20They%20are%20perfect%20for%20fall%20time%20parties,%20bonfires%20and%20tailgating.%20If%20you%20make%20the%20sauce%20ahead%20of%20time,%20you%20could%20easily%20keep%20it%20warm%20in%20the%20slow%20cooker%20for%20all%20day/night%20fun.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIt's%20time%20to%20say%20good-bye%20to%20summer%20and%20hello%20to%20fall.%20But%20no%20matter%20what%20the%20calendar%20says,%20I%20don't%20think%20we%20have%20to%20stop%20eating%20our%20favorite%20summer%20time%20foods%20quite%20yet,%20especially%20if%20we%20transform%20them%20just%20a%20little%20to%20incorporate%20fall%20favorites%20too!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMelt%20butter%20in%20a%20large%20skillet%20over%20low%20heat.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAdd%20apples%20in%20a%20single%20layer.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESprinkle%20with%20lemon%20juice,%20brown%20sugar%20and%20spices.%20Stir%20to%20coat.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECover%20and%20simmer%20on%20low%20until%20tender,%20about%2010%20minutes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERemove%20apples%20with%20a%20slotted%20spoon.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20a%20small%20bowl%20combine%20apple%20cider%20and%20cornstarch.%20Whisk%20well.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPour%20into%20skillet%20with%20drippings%20from%20apples.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIncrease%20heat%20to%20medium.%20Whisk%20continuously%20until%20thickened.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECombine%20apples,%20sauce%20and%20walnuts%20in%20a%20large%20bowl.%20Stir%20gently%20to%20combine.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAllow%20to%20cool%20slightly.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EScoop%20ice%20cream%20into%20waffle%20bowls,%20spoon%20apple%20mixture%20over%20top.%20Add%20a%20few%20walnuts%20to%20top.%20*NOTE*%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EYou%20can%20serve%20this%20right%20after%20cooking,%20when%20it's%20very%20warm,%20but%20I%20find%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eit%20works%20better%20when%20it's%20cooled%20slightly.%20You%20can%20also%20make%20it%20ahead%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eof%20time%20and%20reheat%20in%20the%20microwave,%20for%20about%201-2%20minutes%20until%20it's%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ewarmed%20through.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
