%20and%20they%20served%20snacks.%20Anyone%20surprised%20by%20that?%20Yeah-%20me%20either!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThey%20used%20to%20just%20serve%20these%20little%20teeny%20tiny%20brownies%20and%20trays%20of%20cookies,%20ShopRite%20brand%20I%20believe%20(or%20similar,%20grocery%20store%20brand%20cookies).%20One%20of%20my%20favorites%20was%20the%20hard%20iced%20oatmeal%20cookies.%20I%20used%20to%20love%20the%20hard%20iced%20sugar%20cookies,%20but%20one%20day%20I%20accidentally%20grabbed%20the%20oatmeal%20and%20my%20love%20went%20from%20there.%20For%20some%20reason%20the%20other%20day%20I%20just%20wanted%20those%20cookies!%20But%20I%20figured%20I'd%20see%20if%20I%20could%20make%20them%20at%20home.%20These%20were%20good,%20and%20if%20you%20ignore%20the%20icing,%20they%20are%20a%20healthier%20cookie.%20(Notice%20I%20said%20%22HEALTHIER%22%20and%20not%20healthy...)%20They%20were%20soft,%20and%20not%20hard%20like%20the%20cookies%20of%20childhood,%20but%20they%20were%20still%20awesome!%20Definitely%20worth%20making,%20plus%20they%20are%20a%20nice%20break%20from%20my%20typical%20chocolate%20chip%20cookie%20route.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESource:%20Cookies%20adapted%20from%20Martha%20Stewart,%20icing%20Stephanie%20Cooks%20Original%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIngredients:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECookies:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDirections:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E1-%20Preheat%20the%20oven%20to%20350.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E2-%20Combine%20the%20melted%20butter%20and%20sugars%20in%20a%20bowl,%20stirring%20until%20well%20combined.%20Add%20in%20the%20egg%20and%20applesauce,%20beating%20well,%20about%201-2%20minutes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E3-%20Stir%20in%20the%20oats,%20flour,%20baking%20powder,%20baking%20soda,%20and%20salt.%20Mix%20well.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E4-%20Scoop%20heaping%20tablespoons%20of%20dough%20onto%20lined%20cookie%20sheets.%20Bake%20until%20golden,%2011-13%20minutes.%20Allow%20to%20set%20on%20the%20cookie%20sheet%20at%20least%205%20minutes%20before%20transferring%20to%20a%20cooling%20rack.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E5-%20Assemble%20the%20icing-%20in%20a%20small%20bowl%20beat%20together%20the%20sugar,%20vanilla,%20and%20water.%20If%20it's%20too%20thick%20add%20a%20bit%20more%20water,%20until%20it's%20fluid.%20Using%20a%20pastry%20brush%20brush%20the%20icing%20onto%20completely%20cooled%20cookies.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E6-%20Allow%20the%20icing%20to%20harden%20at%20room%20temperature,%20then%20store%20in%20an%20airtight%20container.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
