  1. A chutney (chatni) is a warm spicy relish which often contains fruit but doesn't have to. One local restaurant serves chopped chile peppers with yogurt: it too is a chutney. Vegetables, like this one, make an unusual relish for a vegetable or possibly meat curry dish.
  2. Cook the unpeeled potatoes in salted water. Drain, peel, and dice.
  3. Finely dice the chilies, and mix the two together in a serving dish.
  4. Season, sprinkle on cumin seeds (warmed, optional). Pour on the lemon juice. Set aside for 10 min. Carefully stir in the yogurt. Chill.
  5. Serve chilled with any curry dish.
  6. Try new potatoes, red potatoes, fingerlings, Yukon golds, etc.
  7. NOTES : Here's another relish: potatoes and peppers. I've seen some made with dal (split lentils/peas).
