Receta Je Tries To Cook: Spicy Fried Chicken
I once made some buffalo wings for lunch using an off the shelf breading mix and sauce. Unfortunately, my family didn’t like it. My dad said, “Kayang kaya mong gayahin ‘to e. Mas masarap pa!”
Ok, nauto ako ni erpats, kaya pinagbigyan ko. Pero bilang ang tigas ng ulo ng nanay ko, hindi wings ang binili. Pareho lang naman daw na manok ‘yun. I don’t think there is such dish called BUFFALO LEGS or BUFFALO DRUMSTICKS so I decided to name this recipe as Spicy Fried Chicken. Teeehee! Makalusot lang! :p
INGREDIENTS:
- 10 pcs chicken drumstick
- 4 tbsp chicken breading mix
- 2 tbsp flour
- seasoning granules
- salt, ground pepper, garlic powder
- chili powder, oil for frying
- 2 tsp calamansi juice (not in the picture)
- 1 1/2 tbsp Sriracha chili sauce
- 3 tbsp tomato ketchup
- 6 tbsp banana ketchup
- 2 tbsp melted butter (not in the picture)
DIRECTIONS:
1. Marinate the chicken in calamansi juice, salt, pepper, garlic powder and seasoning granules.
2. Prepare the breading mix. You can use any brand, but my mom buys the chicken breading mix we use at home from the local market. This breading mix already contains salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder and paprika. And the best thing is it only costs PHP12! Every time I use this, I make sure to add some flour so as to tone down the strong flavors. I also decided to put some homemade chili powder given to us by my cousin.
3. Coat the chicken with the breading mix.
4. Deep fry the chicken until golden brown.
5. To prepare the sauce, mix the tomato ketchup, banana ketchup, chili sauce and melted butter. In case you've already been to Pho Hoa, you probably know that Sriracha chili sauce is a staple on every table. We bought one from S&R, and the whole family puts it in everything!
You may serve the sauce on the side, or coat the fried chicken with it. My dad and I opted for the latter. Para mapanindigan ko yung BUFFALO LEGS! Pero since panget sa picture, plain fried chicken na lang ang finished product. :p
I was surprised that the chicken turned out to be really juicy and crispy. Sobrang tsamba sa sauce, but the whole family loved it! :)
