Meet the new member of our family! Simon Gregory arrived just over two weeks early on April 17th weighing in at 7lb 9oz. (He’ll already be 2 weeks old tomorrow!) Labor and Delivery was smooth and quick! For those of you who like to hear L&D stories, here’s a quick run-down of the event. Otherwise, skip to the paragraph after the next photo.
I had contractions through the night on Tuesday (early Wednesday morning), starting at 2:00 AM. %20%20Labor%20and%20Delivery%20was%20smooth%20%20and%20quick!%20%20For%20those%20of%20you%20who%20like%20to%20hear%20L&D%20stories,%20here%E2%80%99s%20a%20quick%20run-down%20of%20the%20event.%20%20%20%20Otherwise,%20skip%20to%20the%20paragraph%20after%20the%20next%20photo.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20had%20contractions%20through%20the%20night%20on%20Tuesday%20(early%20Wednesday%20morning),%20starting%20at%202:00%20AM.%20%20I%20thought%20it%20was%20just%20a%20repeat%20of%20the%20week%20before%20where%20I%20had%20contractions%20starting%20at%202AM%20and%20stopped%20at%205AM.%20%20But,%20these%20didn%E2%80%99t%20stop.%20%20They%20only%20became%20more%20frequent%20and%20a%20lot%20stronger.%20%20By%204:00%20AM%20I%20was%20in%20so%20much%20pain%20every%203-5%20minutes,%20but%20I%20wanted%20to%20wait%20a%20little%20longer%20before%20heading%20to%20the%20hospital%20so%20I%20could%20let%20our%20friends%20sleep%20a%20little%20longer%20before%20dropping%20Judah%20off%20with%20them.%20%20Oh,%20I%E2%80%99m%20so%20thoughtful.%20Ha!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBy%20the%20time%20we%20checked%20in%20at%20the%20hospital,%20it%20was%206:30%20AM%20and%20I%20was%207cm%20dilated!%20%20Because%20I%20knew%20my%20window%20was%20short,%20I%20immediately%20told%20the%20nurse%20I%20wanted%20an%20epidural%20before%20it%20was%20too%20late.%20%20Epidural%20was%20given,%20pain%20went%20away,%20and%20then%20returned%20shortly%20as%20the%20dosage%20wore%20off%20much%20more%20quickly%20than%20I%20anticipated%20during%20pushing!%20%20This%20caused%20a%20ton%20of%20pain%20in%20the%20left%20side%20of%20my%20lower%20back.%20%20The%20worst%20pain%20I%E2%80%99ve%20ever%20felt%20in%20my%20life!%20%20I%20had%20to%20stop%20pushing%20because%20I%20thought%20I%20threw%20out%20my%20back,%20but%20it%20was%20just%20the%20contractions.%20%20The%20anesthesiologist%20came%20back%20to%20give%20me%20another%20dose,%20but%20after%2015%20minutes%20of%20waiting,%20it%20never%20took%20in%20that%20area%20of%20my%20back,%20so%20I%20decided%20to%20keep%20pushing%20through%20the%20pain%20since%20baby%20Simon%20was%20on%20his%20way%20out!%20%20If%20I%20didn%E2%80%99t%20wait%20for%20that%2015%20minutes,%20he%20would%E2%80%99ve%20been%20out%20in%2030%20minutes%20total%20of%20pushing.%20%20But,%20since%20I%20waited%20the%2015%20minutes,%20it%20was%20a%20total%20time%20of%2045%20minutes.%20%20Still%20much%20faster%20than%20the%202%201/2%20hours%20of%20pushing%20when%20I%20had%20Judah!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%E2%80%99ve%20been%20doing%20well%20transitioning%20into%20a%20family%20of%20four.%20%20Much%20easier%20than%20I%20imagined!%20%20The%20day%20we%20returned%20home%20from%20the%20hospital,%20I%20was%20out%20walking%20and%20taking%20advantage%20of%20our%20beautiful%20weather%20through%20the%20next%20few%20days.%20%20My%20feet%20definitely%20stayed%20swollen%20for%20a%20while%20since%20I%20wasn%E2%80%99t%20putting%20my%20feet%20up%20as%20much%20as%20the%20doctor%20ordered,%20but%20here%20in%20Mississippi,%20I%E2%80%99ve%20learned%20you%20need%20to%20enjoy%20the%2070%20degree%20temperatures%20before%20they%20hit%2090%20for%20the%20rest%20of%20the%20summer!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20love%20my%20sweet%20little%20baby%20Simon.%20%20He%20is%20sweet,%20doesn%E2%80%99t%20cry%20a%20ton,%20and%20sleeps%20pretty%20well%20so%20far.%20%20I%20get%20up%20with%20him%20only%20once%20or%20twice%20in%20the%20night%20(he%E2%80%99s%20formula%20fed)%20right%20now.%20%20Hopefully%20this%20is%20indicative%20of%20a%20great%20sleeping%20baby!%20%20As%20far%20as%20his%20looks,%20I%20think%20he%20resembles%20Ben%20more%20than%20me%20in%20the%20face,%20but%20has%20my%20fingers%20and%20toes.%20%20Funny%20enough,%20although%20his%20older%20brother%20is%20dark%20complexion,%20brown%20eyes%20and%20dark%20features%20(just%20like%20mom%20and%20dad),%20Simon%20has%20lighter%20skin%20with%20blondish%20hair,%20and%20the%20baby%20grey-blue%20eyes!%20%20Not%20what%20we%20expected,%20but%20I%20love%20it!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMy%20best%20friend%20(Vicki)%20came%20into%20town%20last%20week%20to%20snap%20some%20newborn%20photos%20of%20Simon.%20%20The%20KitchenAid%20stand%20mixer%20and%20cookbooks%20photo%20are%20two%20of%20my%20favorites%20that%20I%20requested%20her%20to%20do%20for%20my%20blog%20announcement.%20%20Don%E2%80%99t%20you%20love%20them??!!%20%20Big%20shout%20out%20to%20my%20blogging%20friends,%20Jenny,%20Lori,%20and%20Jessica%20for%20using%20their%20cookbooks%20as%20props.%20%20I%20think%20Simon%20is%20gaining%20much%20cooking%20wisdom%20through%20osmosis%20in%20that%20photo.%20%20%3Cchuckle!%3E%20%20But,%20seriously,%20Vicki%20took%20some%20more%20adorable%20photos%20of%20Simon%20and%20I%20wish%20I%20could%20share%20all%20of%20them%20with%20you!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EJudah%20LOVES%20his%20little%20brother.%20%20He%20has%20shown%20nothing%20but%20positive%20feelings%20towards%20him%20since%20the%20day%20he%20met%20him%20in%20the%20hospital.%20%20He%20wants%20to%20hold%20him,%20help%20him,%20hug%20him,%20feed%20him,%20etc.%20all%20the%20time.%20%20My%20heart%20melts%20all%20day%20long%20when%20seeing%20this.%20%20I%20hope%20they%20become%20best%20friends%20when%20they%20are%20older.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%E2%80%99ve%20been%20taking%20some%20time%20off%20here%20so%20I%20can%20fully%20enjoy%20my%20two%20sons,%20but%20I%E2%80%99ll%20be%20back%20to%20regular%20blogging%20soon!%20%20I%20have%20a%20giveaway%20coming%20up%20in%20the%20near%20future,%20too,%20so%20make%20sure%20you%20check%20back!%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
