Low-Carb Lassi and Variations — Day III — Sweet Lassi with Rose Water and Cardamom
Posted on June 6, 2014. Filed under: Cold Drinks, Drinks | Tags: carbs under 5, drink |
Welcome to the day three of the low-carb lassi week! It gets exotic today! In fact, for Indian people the combination of rose water and cardamom is very familiar (which I found out after I had tried that flavor combination first myself…), but for me as a Finn these flavors are new and totally fascinating.
- Sweet Lassi with Rose Water and Cardamom
- 2 cups = 480 ml ice-cold water
- 4 oz = 115 g organic, full-fat Greek or Turkish yogurt
- 1–2 packages NuStevia NoCarbs Blend
- 1 organic green cardamom pod
- 1 teaspoon organic rose water
Directions
Place all ingredients in a blender jar. (I used Blendtec blender with WildSide jar.)
Blend until smooth and frothy. (I used smoothie program.)
Strain out the possible tiny pieces of the cardamom pod if you think they will disturb you.
Serve immediately over ice cubes.

Tips for making this low-carb lassi
You can read more general lassi tips from my first blog post in this series.
This drink calls for some sweetness, though you can start with only one package of sweetener and add more if you prefer sweeter drink. One package of NuStevia gives only a hint of sweetness, two packages make quite sweet drink.
Nothing prevents you from using other sweetener than NuStevia NoCarbs Blend. I just personally found it best with this drink. Liquid stevia gave somehow “thin” type of sweetness, while the sweetness in the stevia and erythritol based zero-carb sweetener seems to be more full-bodied.
This drink is thin because I wanted to make it refreshing and easy to sip. If you prefer thicker drink, you can replace the water or part of it with crushed ice.
Previously, I’ve combined rose water with blueberry and pomegranate in my drinks. However, I’ve never combined rose water with any spices. I wonder if I had read about the combination of rose water and cardamom sometimes before, or if I simply intuitively chose cardamom with rose water when I did my experiments for this lassi week. Anyway, I was very pleased with rose water and cardamom together and later found out that it actually is one of the most common flavor combinations in lassi.
Hope you enjoy it, too!
