- Put about 1/2 inch of water in frying pan. Add in beef and saute/fry till it loses its pink color, add in tomatoes and juice, onion, garlic and tomato paste, stir well, simmer 5 min. Add in oregano, basil, red pepper flakes, sugar and pepper. Cover and simmer 10 to 15 min, till thickened slightly or possibly to degree of thickness desired. Add in extra virgin olive oil if you like for flavor, but it is not necessary.
