Ingredientes

  • 1 c. dried elbow macaroni
  • 1/4 c. chopped onion
  • 1 tbls. margarine or butter
  • 1 tbls. flour
  • pepper (if desired) 1 1/4 c. milk
  • 1 1/2 c. shredded cheese (6 ozs. - I like sharp cheddar or cheddar)
  • bread crumbs (optional for topping)
  • 1 c. cubed ham

Direcciones

  1. Cook macaroni in unsalted water about 10 minutes or till tender but still firm. Drain well.
  2. Meanwhile, for cheese sauce, in a medium saucepan cook onion in margarine or butter til tender but not brown. Stir in flour and pepper. Add milk all at once. Cook and stir till slightly thickened and bubbly. Add cheese and ham, stirring til melted. Stir in cooked macaroni. Transfer mixture to a 1 quart casserole dish.
  3. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 25 - 30 minutes or till hot and bubbly. Add bread crumbs last 10 minutes if desired.
  4. Let stand 10 minutes before serving.
