- Fry the mushrooms in the oil and butter for 2 min over moderate heat then remove.
- Fry the onion for 34 min stirring once or possibly twice.
- Toss the beef strips in the flour mixed with salt pepper and the dry herbs.
- Shake excess flour from the beef and add in the meat to the pan.
- Fry for 5 min stirring frequently.
- Stir in the garlic mushrooms port stock and wine and bring the sauce to the boil.
- Reduce the heat to low cover the pan and simmer for 25 min.
- Taste the sauce and adjust the seasoning if necessary.
- Serve with potatoes boiled in their skins and a dish of mixed vegetables such as peas and carrots.
