%20produces%20what%20I%20think%20just%20might%20be%20the%20best%20olive%20oil%20ever.%20The%20four%20family%20whippets%20rule%20the%20roost,%20while%20the%20lone%20shaggy%20dog%20Iago%20eyes%20them%20laconically.%20There%20are%20an%20equal%20number%20of%20cats,%20including%20this%20tortoise%20beauty%20we%20adopted%20for%20three%20days.%20Plus%20chickens,%20goats,%20a%20sad%20looking%20donkey,%20and%20incidentally%20four%20children.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAll%20that%20and%20yet%20Montalbano%20is%20blessedly%20secluded%20and%20deeply%20restful.%20The%20guest%20villas%20are%20set%20some%20distance%20from%20the%20house,%20ensuring%20privacy%20and%20the%20ultimate%20chance%20to%20relax.%20Breakfast%20is%20low%20key%20and%20casual,%20and%20the%20small%20villages%20of%20San%20Donato%20in%20Fronzano%20and%20Donnini%20have%20well%20equipped%20greengrocers%20so%20that%20you%20can%20make%20your%20own%20meals,%20and%20only%20slightly%20further%20afield%20there%20are%20plenty%20of%20options%20for%20small%20and%20delicious%20trattorie%20and%20osterie.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELunch%20al%20fresco%20on%20our%20private%20terrace%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOur%20room%20with%20a%20view...%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELavender%20and%20rosemary%20as%20far%20as%20the%20eye%20can%20see%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBut%20by%20far%20our%20favourite%20meal%20in%20our%20three%20nights%20stay%20was%20at%20Montalbano%20itself.%20Daniela,%20who%20never%20seems%20to%20sleep,%20will%20occasionally%20make%20dinner%20for%20guests.%20The%20multicourse%20meal%20is%20served%20in%20the%20taverna,%20a%20300%20year%20old%20cantina%20originally%20used%20to%20store%20olive%20oil.%20Lit%20with%20hundreds%20of%20candles,%20served%20alongside%20the%20farm%E2%80%99s%20own%20delicious%20Chianti,%20the%20meal%20was%20sumptuous%20and%20completely%20satisfying.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESalsa%20di%20Peperoni%20Gialli%20(Yellow%20Pepper%20Sauce)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Emakes%20approx%20four%20cups%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20fabulous%20yellow%20pepper%20sauce%20was%20actually%20served%20atop%20grilled%20bread%20as%20part%20of%20the%20antipasti%20course%20at%20Montalbano.%20In%20the%20middle%20of%20serving%20several%20tables,%20Daniela%20generously%20jotted%20down%20the%20recipe%20for%20me.%20%20Not%20only%20wrote%20it%20out,%20but%20tied%20it%20with%20a%20beautiful%20fragrant%20flower%20from%20the%20garden.%20%20A%20truly%20memorable%20night.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAs%20I%20contemplated%20how%20I%20would%20cook%20my%20fresh%20halibut%20for%20dinner%20tonight,%20it%20struck%20me%20that%20this%20sauce%20would%20be%20an%20unusual%20%E2%80%93%20and%20unusually%20good%20%E2%80%93%20accompaniment.%20I%20lightened%20the%20sauce%20by%20using%20yogurt%20intead%20of%20whipped%20cream.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E1.%20Wash%20the%20peppers%20and%20slice%20them%20into%20thin%20slices.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E2.%20In%20a%20large%20skillet,%20combine%20the%20oil,%20garlic%20and%20peppers%20over%20medium%20high%20heat.%20Add%20the%20water%20and%20cook,%20stirring%20constantly,%20until%20the%20water%20is%20almost%20evaporated.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E3.%20At%20this%20point,%20the%20peppers%20will%20begin%20to%20brown.%20Continue%20cooking,%20a%20couple%20of%20minutes%20more,%20until%20they%20are%20evenly%20and%20very%20lightly%20browned.%20Remove%20from%20heat.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E4.%20Transfer%20the%20peppers%20to%20a%20blender%20and%20blend%20to%20a%20smooth%20puree.%20Place%20in%20a%20bowl,%20add%20the%20yogurt%20and%20stir%20thoroughly.%20Add%20the%20salt%20and%20pepper,%20and%20adjust%20for%20seasoning.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20sauce%20can%20be%20used%20as%20it%20is%20at%20Montalbano,%20as%20a%20spread%20on%20grilled%20bread,%20or%20a%20dip%20for%20crackers.%20Thinned%20with%20a%20little%20vegetable%20or%20chicken%20broth,%20it%20would%20be%20a%20wonderfully%20different%20type%20of%20cold%20summer%20soup.%20%20And,%20as%20I%20thought,%20it%20really%20was%20unusually%20good%20on%20a%20piece%20of%20simply%20roasted%20halibut,%20served%20alongside%20a%20salad%20of%20mixed%20sunflower%20sprouts%20and%20pea%20shoots%20that%20were%20topped%20with%20sprouted%20radish%20and%20lightly%20dressed%20with%20Fattoria%20Montalbano's%20finest.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20greens%20are%20from%20Kind%20Organics,%20a%20local%20farm%20that's%20been%20operating%20since%201999.%20%20Sandra%20and%20Tamas%20Dombi,%20along%20with%20partner%20Amber%20Malek,%20grow%20the%20most%20incredibly%20fresh%20greens:%20they%20taste%20alive%20when%20you%20eat%20them,%20and%20are%20best%20served%20just%20as%20I%20did,%20with%20a%20bit%20of%20crunchy%20salt%20and%20that%20amazing%20oil.%20%20And%20if%20you%20haven't%20had%20fresh%20sunflower%20sprouts,%20make%20a%20vow%20to%20find%20them%20before%20summer's%20over.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
