- Soak peas overnight in water to cover; drain.
- Place peas in Dutch oven with ham bone, potatoes, carrots, onion, bay leaf, 4 qts water and salt and pepper to taste.
- Cook over low heat approximately 4 hrs, stirring occasionally.
- Remove ham bone and bay leaf. Place soup in blender, blend till smooth. Taste to correct seasonings. Reheat and serve piping warm. Makes 10 servings.
