%20I%20rested%20up.%20The%20sheer%20physical%20effort,%20the%20loss%20of%20toe-nails%20and%20my%20foot%20injury%20ensured%20I%20couldn%E2%80%99t%20do%20anything%20for%20weeks%20and%20after%20all%20the%20hard%20work%20it%20was%20easy%20to%20let%20things%20slip.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EComing%20up%20to%20Christmas%20I%20was%20gorging%20chocolate%20and%20high%20fat%20foods%20again%20(in%20addition%20to%20all%20the%20healthier%20veggie%20wartime%20dishes%20I%20love)%20and%20a%20couple%20of%20days%20after%20Christmas%20I%20was%20back%20up%20to%20296%20lbs%20(having%20put%2026%20lbs%20on%20since%20the%20Marathon).%20I%20felt%20really%20tired%20and%20my%20back%20pain%20had%20returned.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERichard%20and%20I%20had%20booked%20a%20holiday%20to%20the%20USA%20leaving%20two%20days%20after%20Christmas.%20We%20were%20excited.%20We%20both%20love%20the%20vastness%20of%20America.%20We%20had%20plans%20for%20Las%20Vegas,%20The%20Grand%20Canyon,%20Monument%20Valley%20and%20some%20National%20Parks.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDespite%20the%20weight%20gain%20I%20managed%20to%20fit%20into%20my%20seat%20on%20Virgin%20Atlantic%20Airlines%20without%20an%20extender%20belt%20(the%20same%20cannot%20be%20said%20for%20RyanAir)%20which%20was%20a%20huge%20relief%20because%20though%20I%20laugh%20it%20off%20and%20pretend%20to%20be%20brave,%20it%20makes%20me%20feel%20like%20a%20freak%E2%80%A6%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBut%20this%20is%20all%20self-pitying%20codswallop.%20I%20can%20do%20something%20about%20this.%20For%20some%20reason%20though%20it%20never%20seems%20important%20enough,%20what%20does%20it%20take?%20WHAT%20actually%20does%20it%20take%20to%20realize%20that%20our%20time%20on%20this%20planet%20is%20not%20infinite,%20that%20If%20I%E2%80%99m%20really%20lucky%20I%E2%80%99ll%20have%20another%2030%20years%20to%20dream,%20travel,%20love,%20giggle,%20run,%20cry,%20challenge%20convention,%20challenge%20myself.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESuddenly%20that%20doesn%E2%80%99t%20seem%20like%20a%20lot%20of%20time%20anymore.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20then%20a%20couple%20of%20days%20after%20we%20landed%20in%20the%20USA%20we%20got%20ill.%20Both%20of%20us%20had%20the%20shivers,%20coughs,%20awful%20headaches,%20no%20appetite,%20we%20felt%20terrible.%20It%20felt%20like%20a%20flu.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20then%20the%20headaches%20and%20chills%20disappeared%20and%20at%20a%20small%20garden%20centre%20in%20Sedona%20I%20treated%20us%20to%20a%20Klondike%20Bar%20ice-cream%20and%20thought%20YES%20things%20are%20getting%20better.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIt%20was%20short%20lived.%20The%20next%20day%20I%20was%20in%20hospital%20with%20hypoxia%20and%20pneumonia.%20Couldn%E2%80%99t%20walk,%20couldn%E2%80%99t%20breathe.%20It%20just%20came%20on%20so%20quickly.%20The%20medical%20professionals%20at%20Flagstaff%20Hospital%20in%20Arizona%20were%20really%20helpful%20and%20treatment%20was%20rapid%20and%20after%20two%20days%20and%20nights%20on%20IV%20anti-biotics%20and%20saline%20drips,%20steroids,%20inhalers%20and%20oxygen%20therapy%20things%20quickly%20started%20to%20improve.%20Richard%20slept%20in%20a%20chair%20for%202%20days.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIt%20was%20a%20viral%20pneumonia%20and%20it%20was%20in%20both%20my%20lungs%20but%20it%20could%20have%20been%20much%20worse.%20The%20x-rays%20showed%20several%20small%20patches%20in%20each%20lung%20%E2%80%93%20that%E2%80%99s%20all.%20No%20bacteria,%20no%20horrible%20lurgy.%20Nothing%20much%20really%20but%20enough%20to%20make%20me%20think%20and%20be%20scared%20enough%20to%20question%20myself%E2%80%A6%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E%E2%80%9CWHAT%20THE%20FUCK%20ARE%20YOU%20DOING%E2%80%A6..?%E2%80%9D%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EObesity%20lowers%20immunity,%20if%20I%E2%80%99d%20been%20taking%20care%20of%20myself%20better%20and%20actually%20cared%20what%20I%20was%20putting%20in%20my%20mouth%20this%20probably%20wouldn%E2%80%99t%20have%20happened.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E%E2%80%9CWHAT%20AN%20IDIOT%E2%80%A6.%E2%80%9D%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAfter%20a%20few%20days%20interlude%20in%20hospital%20it%20was%20time%20to%20continue%20forward%20on%20our%20journey%20which%20essentially%20was%20us%20biding%20our%20time%20and%20getting%20stronger%20before%20our%20plane%20left%20to%20return%20to%20the%20UK.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20travelled%20home%20on%20my%2050th%20birthday.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIt%E2%80%99s%20made%20me%20realize%20that%20I%20DO%20want%20the%20next%2030%20years%20of%20my%20life%20to%20be%20wonderful,%20to%20be%20healthy.%20I%20want%20Richard%20and%20I%20to%20both%20be%20strong.%20Taking%20responsibility%20for%20that%20is%20the%20ONLY%20way%20forward.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20jumped%20on%20the%20scales,%20I%E2%80%99d%20lost%2015%20lbs%20in%2010%20days.%20Not%20the%20best%20way%20to%20lose%20weight%20but%20it%E2%80%99s%20a%20kick-start.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E%E2%80%9CUse%20this%20opportunity%20to%20get%20yourself%20strong%20and%20healthy%E2%80%A6..look%20after%20yourself%E2%80%9D%20my%20doctor%20advised%20me%20this%20afternoon%20as%20she%20wrote%20a%20sick%20note.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20I%20truly%20will%E2%80%A6.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHappy%20New%20Year%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EC%20xxxx%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELik
