Receta No-Flea Dog Biscuits
No-Flea Dog BiscuitsHere's a tasty way for Fido to keep the fleas off! These dog biscuits contain brewers yeast, a natural flea repellent that happens to be good for your dog too! Hint--they LOVE brewers yeast too!
I admit I use regular methods for preventing fleas on my animals, but I also supplement that with brewers yeast and have for years!
Often I give them the brewers yeast tablets as a special treat. They go nuts for the taste too. Brewers yeast has often been touted as a natural way to repel fleas. Apparently, it is secreted through the dog's skin and fleas don't like the odor that's emitted. You won't smell anything though, only the fleas (or so it's said).
Natural remedy for fleasMy vet told me once that brewers yeast is also good for the dog's coat, so that's an added benefit.
But whatever it does (or doesn't do), dogs just love the stuff and you can use it as liberally as you like.
I use whole wheat flour, but you can use any flour you like as long as you get a rollable dough.
Substitute beef or chicken stock for the water too if you want.
I buy the powdered brewers yeast in my local health food store, and you should be able to find a big can of it in your natural/health food store too.
No-Flea Dog Biscuits
- 2 cups oats
- 1 cup powdered brewers yeast
- 1 1/4 cup whole wheat flour (or any flour)
- 1 egg
- 3/4 cup water
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment.
Place brewers yeast, oats, flour and cheese in a large bowl.
In a separate small bowl, beat egg. Add egg to flour mixture and stir well. Add only enough water to make a rollable dough.
Roll out dough to 1/4-inch thickness on a lightly floured surface. Cut into desired shapes.
Bake for 30 minutes. Turn off oven and leave biscuits in there until oven is completely cool (this dehydrates them for storage).
Amount varies, but I got 2 1/2 dozen from this with a "medium" dog bone biscuit cutter.No-Flea Dog Biscuits
