%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThese%20bars%20are%20outrageously%20delicious!%20These%20will%20definitely%20become%20one%20of%20my%20favorite%20recipes.%20Gosh%20they%20are%20awesome.%20Gonna%20be%20hard%20to%20leave%20these%20alone.%20I%20found%20this%20on%20Martha%20Stewarts%20website%20and%20she%20refers%20to%20them%20as%20Oatmeal%20Bars.%20Yes,%20they%20do%20have%20a%20lot%20of%20oatmeal%20in%20them%20but%20the%20caramel%20&%20chocolate%20are%20the%20standout%20flavors%20so%20I%20think%20they%20should%20be%20called%20%22Caramel%20Chocolate%20Oatmeal%20Bars%22.%20Maybe%20the%20chocolate%20isn't%20supposed%20to%20be%20such%20a%20standout%20flavor%20but%20I%20added%20more%20than%20the%20recipe%20called%20for,%20because%20I%20put%20an%20additional%20handful%20of%20semi%20sweet%20&%20milk%20chocolate%20chips%20on%20top%20of%20the%20oatmeal%20topping%20before%20placing%20them%20in%20the%20oven.%20And%20I%20did%20put%20a%20bit%20more%20caramel%20topping%20in%20the%20middle%20than%20called%20for.%20The%20recipe%20calls%20for%2048%20caramels%20and%20I%20put%20like....60%20I%20think.%20More%20is%20better,%20I%20figured.%20Other%20than%20that%20I%20followed%20the%20recipe.%20The%20sides%20get%20a%20bit%20hard%20because%20of%20the%20hardened%20caramel%20but%20it's%20still%20edible%20and%20good.%20Kind%20of%20a%20caramelized%20crunchy%20texture%20on%20the%20sides.%20The%20recipe%20doesn't%20call%20for%20nuts%20which%20is%20good%20because%20I%20don't%20care%20for%20nuts%20but%20I'm%20sure%20walnuts%20or%20pecans%20would%20be%20awesome%20in%20this.%20The%20biggest%20gripe%20I%20have%20about%20this%20recipe%20is%20unwrapping%20all%20those%20damn%20caramels.%20Besides%20that,%20it%20was%20a%20breeze%20and%20came%20together%20pretty%20quickly%20although%20they%20take%20a%20long%20time%20to%20thoroughly%20cool.%20When%20they%20are%20completely%20cooled,%20they%20are%20a%20very%20heavy%20and%20sturdy%20cookie.%20Not%20fragile%20or%20mushy%20at%20all.%20They%20wrap%20very%20nicely%20for%20gift%20giving%20or%20toting%20around.%20I%20lined%20my%2013x9%20inch%20pan%20with%20heavy%20duty%20foil%20and%20sprayed%20with%20Pam.%20The%20recipe%20mentions%20parchment%20on%20the%20bottom%20but%20I%20always%20use%20foil%20for%20my%20bar%20cookies.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EYeah,%20I%20definitely%20recommend%20these.%20I've%20had%20this%20recipe%20for%20years%20and%20I'm%20not%20sure%20what%20took%20me%20so%20long%20to%20make%20it%20but%20now%20that%20I%20have%20-%20I%20will%20be%20making%20them%20often!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOatmeal%20Bars%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIngredients%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMakes%201%20dozen.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDirections%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPreheat%20oven%20to%20350%20degrees.%20Coat%20a%209-by-13-%20inch%20baking%20pan%20with%20cooking%20spray.%20Line%20with%20a%209-by-21-inch%20sheet%20of%20parchment%20paper,%20leaving%20a%202-inch%20overhang%20on%20each%20short%20side.%20Put%20caramels%20and%20cream%20in%20a%20small%20saucepan;%20cook%20over%20medium%20heat,%20stirring%20occasionally,%20until%20caramels%20are%20melted,%20about%205%20minutes.%20Let%20cool.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EStir%20together%20oats,%20flour,%20brown%20sugar,%20baking%20soda,%20and%20the%20salt%20in%20a%20large%20bowl.%20Blend%20in%20butter%20with%20a%20fork%20or%20your%20fingertips%20until%20mixture%20resembles%20coarse%20meal;%20press%20half%20of%20mixture%20onto%20bottom%20of%20lined%20pan.%20Bake%20until%20just%20set%20and%20starting%20to%20color%20around%20edges,%20about%2020%20minutes.%20Let%20cool%20in%20pan%20on%20a%20wire%20rack%205%20minutes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESprinkle%20crust%20with%20chocolate%20chips;%20drizzle%20with%20caramel%20mixture.%20Top%20with%20remaining%20crumb%20mixture.%20Bake%20until%20pale%20golden,%2020%20to%2025%20minutes.%20Let%20cool%20completely%20in%20pan%20before%20cutting%20into%20squares.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
