...and%20I%20know%20that%20I%20cannot,%20no%20matter%20how%20good%20these%20babies%20are....consume%20over%208%20lbs%20of%20strawberries%20before%20they%20start%20to%20turn.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFreezing%20them%20is%20the%20next%20best%20thing.%20Just%20so%20you%20know...this%20is%20ONE%20HUGE%20bowl!%20It's%20one%20of%20those%20tupperware%20super%20duper%20sized%20bowls%20with%20the%20little%20handle%20for%20your%20thumb%20on%20the%20side%20(not%20shown%20in%20picture...sorry).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThey%20do%20need%20some%20prep%20work%20though.%20I%20mean,%20I%20don't%20plan%20on%20freezing%20the%20green%20tops.%20This%20could%20take%20some%20time....ya%20know?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENever%20fear....I%20have%20a%20wonderful%20little%20gadget%20that%20was%20given%20to%20me%20by%20a%20close%20friend.%20She's%20actually%20one%20of%20my%20favorite%20people%20to%20cook%20with.%20We%20just%20mesh%20so%20well%20together%20in%20the%20kitchen.%20And%20she's%20a%20wonderful%20cook.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20have%20discovered%20that%20I%20cannot%20whip%20cream%20without%20her%20guidance.%20It%20just%20doesn't%20work%20(as%20seen%20in%20the%20top%20photo).%20Anyways....she%20gave%20me%20this%20fun%20little%20kitchen%20toy%20that%20quickly%20and%20easily%20removes%20those%20little%20green%20stems%20from%20strawberries.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20it%20works%20wonderfully%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EYou%20insert,%20twist%20and%20remove%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThen%20you%20push%20the%20end%20and%20release%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20less%20than%2015%20minutes,%20I%20had%20completely%20de-stemmed%208%20lbs%20of%20strawberries%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMost%20of%20which%20ended%20up%20in%20freezer%20bags,%20while%20some%20were%20saved%20for%20one%20of%20my%20favorite%20summer%20desserts....%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPoundcake,%20topped%20with%20strawberries%20and%20whipped%20cream.%20It's%20one%20of%20those%20desserts%20that%20I%20have%20been%20enjoying%20for%20as%20long%20as%20I%20can%20remember.%20Only,%20never%20homemade.%20Always%20store%20bought.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20have%20this%20really%20old%20cookbook,%20%22The%20American%20Woman's%20Cookbook%22%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMy%20mom%20gave%20to%20me%20back%20when%20I%20was%2019%20(the%20book%20was%20really%20old%20then%20too...I%20swear!!).%20The%20book%20was%20originally%20published%20in%201938.%20Mine%20was%20published%20in%201948.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20found%20a%20recipe%20for%20poundcake.%20Old-Fashioned%20Poundcake%20to%20be%20exact.%20Made%20me%20wonder%20how%20old-fashioned%20it%20could%20be%20back%20in%201948?!%20Well,%20apparently%20poundcake%20first%20came%20around%20in%20the%20early%201700's.%20So%20I%20s'pose%20a%2060%20%20yr%20old%20recipe%20can%20still%20refer%20to%20it%20as%20old-fashioned.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOld-Fashioned%20Poundcake%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPreheat%20oven%20to%20325'%20F%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECream%20the%20butter.%20Work%20in%20the%20flour%20until%20mixture%20is%20mealy.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20a%20separate%20bowl,%20beat%20egg%20yolks,%20sugar%20and%20vanilla%20until%20thick%20in%20fluffy.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAdd%20butter%20mixture%20to%20the%20egg%20mixture%20gradually,%20beating%20thoroughly.%20In%20another%20bowl,%20beat%20egg%20whites%20until%20stiff.%20Fold%20egg%20whites%20into%20butter%20mixture.%20Beat%20vigorously%205%20minutes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPrepare%202%20loaf%20pans%20by%20lining%20them%20with%20parchment%20paper.%20Bake%20for%201%201/4%20hours.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20there%20you%20have%20it....2%20loaves%20of%20pound%20cake.%20One%20to%20eat,%20and%20one%20to%20share.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhat's%20your%20favorite%20way%20to%20eat%20a%20fresh%20slice%20of%20pound%20cake?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20is%20my%20entry%20in%20this%20weeks%20Blog%20Hop%20Carnival,%20Real%20Food%20for%20Two%20for%20Tuesday.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
