.%20Once%20I%20make%20a%20recipe,%20I%20taste%20it,%20I%20photograph%20it,%20I%20share%20it,%20and%20then%20I%20store%20it%20away%20and%20move%20on%20past%20it%20to%20the%20next%20recipe.%20I%20can%20get%20irritated%20if%20I%20have%20to%20remake%20a%20recipe%20multiple%20times%20when%20I%20could%20be%20trying%20something%20new.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESo%20a%20few%20weeks%20ago%20I%20was%20asked%20to%20make%20pecan%20pie%20for%20a%20family%20friend,%20I%20looked%20at%20it%20as%20more%20of%20a%20challenge.%20I've%20made%20pecan%20pie%20multiple%20times%20and%20I%20was%20frankly%20bored%20(not%20wanting%20to%20make%20an%20all%20butter%20pie%20crust%20might%20have%20had%20something%20to%20do%20with%20it%20too).%20I%20remembered%20an%20old%20episode%20of%20Martha%20Stewart%20when%20she%20made%20lemon%20tassies,%20and%20thought%20I'd%20try%20the%20same%20with%20pecans.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETassies%20are,%20essentially,%20a%20miniature%20pie%20or%20tart.%20Perhaps%20not%20the%20most%20creative%20way%20I%20could%20have%20gone,%20but%20these%20tassies%20were%20delicious.%20The%20crust%20has%20cream%20cheese,%20which%20is%20a%20common%20ingredient%20I've%20noticed%20in%20most%20tassie%20recipes,%20and%20so%20is%20soft%20and%20flaky.%20The%20filling%20is%20like%20one%20big%20mouthful%20of%20pecan%20pie.%20They%20may%20not%20have%20the%20wow%20factor%20or%20the%20homeyness%20of%20a%20classic%20pecan%20pie,%20but%20they've%20got%20all%20the%20flavor%20and%20are%20(okay,%20marginally)%20healthier.%20And%20besides,%20it's%20built-in%20quantity%20control:%20you'll%20thank%20me%20later.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EExtra%20note:%20as%20you%20may%20or%20may%20not%20have%20noticed,%20I'm%20giving%20my%20blog%20a%20bit%20of%20a%20makeover.%20It's%20taking%20some%20time%20since%20I'm%20attempting%20some%20HTML%20of%20my%20own%20and%20it's%20been%20a%20while,%20but%20there%20will%20be%20gradual%20changes%20made%20over%20the%20next%20few%20days.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPecan%20Tassies%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAdapted%20from%20BBC%20Good%20Food%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMakes%2012%20tassies%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPastry:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPreheat%20oven%20to%20180C/356F.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETo%20make%20the%20pastry,%20grind%20the%20pecans%20in%20a%20food%20processor,%20then%20pulse%20in%20the%20remaining%20ingredients%20until%20the%20dough%20starts%20to%20cling%20together.%20Scrape%20the%20dough%20out%20onto%20a%20lightly%20floured%20surface%20and%20bring%20together%20with%20your%20hands,%20then%20divide%20the%20dough%20into%2012%20small%20balls.%20Using%20your%20fingers,%20press%20each%20dough%20ball%20into%20the%20bottom%20and%20up%20the%20sides%20of%20a%20mini%20muffin%20tin.%20Chill%20in%20the%20fridge%20while%20you%20make%20the%20filling.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETo%20make%20the%20filling,%20toast%20the%20pecans%20in%20a%20dry%20frying%20pan%20for%205%20minutes,%20or%20until%20fragrant.%20Reserve%2012%20whole%20pecans%20for%20topping%20the%20tassies%20and%20roughly%20chop%20the%20rest.%20In%20a%20medium%20bowl,%20whisk%20together%20sugar,%20egg%20yolk,%20maple%20syrup,%20vanilla,%20butter%20and%20salt%20until%20well%20combined.%20Stir%20in%20the%20chopped%20pecans.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBlind%20bake%20the%20chilled%20pastry%20cases%20for%205%20minutes.%20Remove%20from%20the%20oven.%20Spoon%20about%201-2%20tsps%20of%20the%20filling%20into%20each%20pastry%20case%20and%20top%20each%20one%20with%20a%20whole%20pecan.%20Bake%20for%2015-20%20minutes%20(mine%20took%2020)%20or%20until%20the%20crust%20is%20golden%20and%20filling%20has%20puffed%20and%20set.%20Cool%20slightly,%20then%20serve.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
