Receta Perfect French Toast Recipe
There are few things better than thick-cut bread slices soaked in vanilla-scented egg and milk custard and toasted until golden brown. French toast is perfect for weekends – it only takes 30 minutes and a few ingredients to make.
We like it simple — a sprinkle of powdered sugar or drizzle of maple syrup is all we need. That doesn’t mean you couldn’t go big with the toppings, though. A good friend swears by cinnamon sugar (we included a recipe below). Or, try berries, whipped cream, honey or whatever else you can think of.
Crazy Good French Toast Recipe – It’s Easy, Too
This French toast recipe is so easy to make.
All you do is slice day-old bread then soak it in a mixture of eggs, milk, cream and vanilla extract. Throw it into a pan with some hot melted butter and cook until golden brown — It won’t even take more than 30 minutes.
So simple.
What’s the Best Bread to Use?
We really like to use bread that will soak up the egg and milk mixture as much as possible. French, Italian, brioche or Challah bread all work wonderfully. We have even used sourdough bread, which was delicious.
Why Use Day-Old Bread?
Fresh bread just isn’t good for making French toast — it falls apart or becomes mushy. Stale bread is drier than fresh and tends to soak up the egg and milk mixture easily.
Thin Slices vs. Thick?
Just as fresh bread will fall apart or become mushy, so will thinly sliced bread. Try slicing the bread 1/2-inch to 3/4-inch thick.
Are you ready to make our French toast recipe, yet? We love it so much and hope you do, too.

Why we love this recipe. There are few things better than thick cut bread slices soaked in vanilla-scented egg custard and toasted until golden brown. French toast is perfect for weekends – it only takes 30 minutes and a few ingredients to make.
What you need to know. One or two-day old bread is best for making French toast. If the bread is fresh, it will crumble or fall apart when added to the egg mixture or during cooking. Try 1 or 2 day old French, Italian, brioche or Challah bread.
Equipment you’ll need. A baking sheet, medium bowl, whisk, large baking dish, tongs, large pan or griddle.

Serves: 4
Ingredients
- 4 large eggs
- 1/2 cup (118 ml) milk
- 1/4 cup (59 ml) heavy or whipping cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
- 8 slices day-old bread (3/4 inch thick)
- 3 tablespoons butter, plus more for serving
- Optional toppings: Powdered sugar, maple syrup, berries, whipped cream, cinnamon sugar (recipe below)
- Cinnamon Sugar
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Method
Warm Oven and Prepare Baking Sheet
Heat oven to 200 degrees F (93 degree C). Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil. Slide baking sheet into oven. (It is best to make French toast in batches, so this is to keep cooked batches warm while the rest are cooked).
Prepare French Toast
In a medium bowl, whisk eggs, milk, cream, vanilla extract and the pinch of salt together until well blended.
Line bread slices up in a large baking dish (it is okay if they overlap). Pour egg mixture over bread slices then move and flip the bread around so each slice is completely moistened with the egg mixture. Continue to move the slices around in the egg mixture until the bread has soaked it all up.
Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a heavy, large pan or griddle over medium-low heat. Working in batches, transfer a few slices of the soaked bread to the pan and cook until golden brown and cooked through, 2 to 3 minutes on each side.
Transfer cooked French toast to warm oven while you cook the remaining bread slices. Add additional butter as needed for each batch.
To serve, transfer warm toast to plates then top with favorite toppings.
Make Cinnamon Sugar (Optional)
Combine sugar and cinnamon then stir until well mixed.
