%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20know%20I%20mentioned%20earlier%20this%20week%20that%20we%20probably%20won't%20be%20doing%20tablescapes%20for%20a%20while%20due%20to%20Mr%20B%20INSISTING%20that%20most%20of%20my%20dishes%20need%20to%20be%20packed%20(he%20can%20be%20SO%20unreasonable!),%20but%20Allie%20and%20I%20had%20a%20little%20%22Blog%20Planning%22%20session%20today,%20so%20I%20thought%20I'd%20invite%20you%20along%20to%20see%20how%20easy%20we%20are%20to%20distract%20plan%20out%20our%20blog%20posts.%20We're%20linking%20up%20to%20Susan's%20fabulous%20Tablescape%20Thursday%20party,%20so%20come%20and%20join%20us!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20morning%20was%20spent%20taking%20my%2012%20year%20old%20to%20the%20dentist%20for%206%20(yes%20SIX!)%20extractions.%20His%20baby%20teeth%20just%20refuse%20to%20pop%20out%20on%20their%20own%20and%20today%20the%20canines%20had%20to%20be%20pulled-%20next%20up-%20orthodontist.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EG-R-O-A-N.........%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20have%20to%20tell%20you-%20he%20was%20awesome!%20And%2015%20minutes%20ago%20when%20the%20dentist%20called%20to%20check%20on%20%22her%20poor%20boy%22%20I%20informed%20her%20that%20he%20was%20busily%20polishing%20off%20a%20humungous%20plate%20of%20pasta%20and%20already%20had%20his%20eye%20on%20the%20ice%20cream.%20He%20claims%20he's%20not%20even%20sore!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAllie%20says%20she%20has%20to%20give%20him%20a%20few%20lessons%20on%20%22milking%20it%22.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EShe's%20an%20expert%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAs%20I%20was%20sitting%20in%20the%20waiting%20room,%20I%20flipped%20through%20this%20month's%20issue%20of%20Country%20Living%20magazine.%20Of%20course%20I%20looked%20at%20the%20recipes%20first.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20found%20a%20recipe%20for%20a%20lovely%20couscous%20salad%20that%20is%20VERY%20similar%20(actually,%20almost%20identical)%20to%20a%20recipe%20I%20frequently%20made%20in%20the%20Fall%20at%20our%20home%20in%20the%20Hudson%20Valley.%20We%20lived%20among%20wineries,%20dairy%20farms%20and%20orchards%20and%20apple%20recipes%20were%20always%20a%20staple.%20My%20original%20recipe%20was%20copied%20from%20a%20magazine%20or%20newspaper%20years%20ago%20and%20I've%20made%20it%20both%20with%20couscous%20and%20orzo,%20depending%20on%20what%20I%20had%20available.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESince%20I%20had%20the%20ingredients%20in%20the%20house,%20this%20was%20lunch%20for%20me%20and%20Allie.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENow%20when%20we%20started%20planning,%20we%20talked%20about%20trying%20some%20new%20things%20next%20week%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe're%20really%20anxious%20to%20try%20some%20of%20the%20fabulous%20looking%20recipes%20in%20a%20Greek%20community%20cookbook%20that%20was%20sent%20to%20us%20by%20a%20follower-%20turned-%20friend.%20Emilia%20so%20generously%20insisted%20on%20gifting%20us%20with%20this%20very%20special%20book%20from%20her%20church.%20So%20stay%20tuned%20for%20that!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20almost%20always%20have%20reminders%20of%20our%20family%20to%20inspire%20us...%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELunch%20at%20the%20island%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHe%20watches%20over%20us%20to%20keep%20us%20on%20track%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAs%20it%20happened,%20my%20Dad%20was%20home%20today%20and%20saw%20what%20we%20were%20doing.%20He%20appointed%20himself%20Supervisor%20and%20told%20me%20I%20was%20photographing%20the%20WRONG%20pages.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOkay,%20Dad.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20was%20showing%20my%20kids%20how%20even%20in%20the%201940s%20our%20family%20tables%20were%20filled%20from%20one%20end%20to%20the%20other%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOne%20of%20my%20favorites-%20my%20Dad%20and%20Grandma%20Josie%20at%20her%20dressing%20table.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20to%20whichever%20family%20member%20got%20that%20vanity%20and%20lamp-%20I%20WANT%20IT!!%20P-l-e-e-e-e-a-s-e...............%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20Dad%20with%20Grandpa%20Joe-%20the%20wine%20was%20always%20shared!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAs%20we%20ate%20and%20planned,%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20noticed%20something.%20There%20were%20pictures%20of%20my%20Dad,%20his%20parents,%20and%20cousins%20on%20their%20summer%20trip%20to%20Upstate%20NY%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhat%20are%20the%20chances??%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThey%20visited%20the%20Pine%20Bush,%20NY%20area%20for%202%20weeks%20every%20summer.%20Fifty%20years%20later,%20I%20would%20(unknowingly)%20end%20up%20living%20within%20a%20half%20hour%20of%20the%20family%20vacation%20spot%20in%20the%20beautiful%20Hudson%20Valley%20of%20NY.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20sat%20at%20the%20island%20for%20several%20hours.%20I%20told%20my%20kids%20that%20you%20can%20never%20go%20forward%20without%20looking%20to%20your%20past.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHopefully%20Casa%20Bramasole's%20still%20uncertain%20future%20will%20bring%20us%20to%20another%20wonderful%20chapter%20in%20our%20family's%20journey%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECouscous%20and%20Apple%20Salad%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eadapted%20from%20Country%20Living%20and%20recipe%20from%20unknown%20magazine%20circa%201990s%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ein%20a%20medium,%20heavy%20skillet%20over%20medium%20heat,%20warm%201%20tblsp%20of%20olive%20oil.%20Add%20couscous%20and,%20stirring%20frequently,%20cook%20till%20toasty%20looking%20and%20golden.%20Add%20broth%20and%20salt%20to%20taste,%20bring%20to%20a%20boil,%20lower%20heat%20and%20simmer%20for%205%20minutes%20till%20cooked.%20Drain%20in%20a%20wire%20strainer%20and%20rinse%20with%20cold%20water-%20drain%20well%20and%20put%20in%20a%20large%20bowl.%20Set%20aside%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20another%20bowl,%20toss%20apples%20with%202%20tblsp%20lemon%20juice.%20Mix%20in%20shallots,%20couscous,%20and%20tomatoes,%20then%20gently%20toss%20in%20most%20of%20the%20Feta%20and%20pine%20nuts%20(save%20a%20bit%20for%20garnish).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20a%20blender,%20pulse%20together%20herbs%20and%20remaining%202%20tblsp%20lemon%20juice.%20With%20motor%20running,%20dribble%20in%20remaining%203%20tblsp%20olive%20oil%20till%20emulsified.%20Add%20pepper%20to%20taste%20and%20toss%20with%20salad.%20Garnish%20with%20reserved%20Feta%20and%20pine%20nuts.%20I%20heaped%20the%20salad%20in%20the%20center%20of%20a%20platter%20and%20added%20some%20fruits%20and%20veggies%20from%20our%20Farmer's%20Market-%20roasted%20beets,%20apricots,%20figs,%20and%20apples.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E**NOTE-%20This%20is%20just%20an%20opinion,%20but%20since%20I%20ALWAYS%20have%20an%20opinion,%20I%20thought%20I'd%20share%20it.%20I%20followed%20Country%20Living's%20proportions%20for%20the%20dressing%20tonight%20to%20try%20it.%20Honestly,%20I%20would%20increase%20this%20by%2050%20per%20cent%20or%20even%20double%20it%20next%20time.%20My%20original%20dressing%20has%20a%20bit%20more%20dressing%20and%20I%20do%20believe%20I%20prefer%20it-%20this%20was%20a%20tiny%20bit%20dry%20for%20my%20taste.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EJoin%20us%20tomorrow%20for%20Foodie%20Friday%20at%20Gollum's%20and%20have%20a%20WONDERFUL%20evening%20full%20of%20love%20and%20family!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAs%20Always,%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBuon%20Cibo,%20Buon%20Amici,%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPattie%20and%20Allie%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
