Receta Pomegranate Green Tea Gelato
Pomegranate Green Tea Gelato

OK—Sorry no pic. We ate it so fast I did not have time to snap a photo.
I based this gelato on Gourmet‘s “Pomegranate Gelato” from September 2006. Since I wanted this gelato to be kid friendly and I did not have any pom liqueur, I was wondering what else I could use to make up the 1/3 cup of liquid in the original recipe. I had just brewed some pomegranate green tea—aha! So, I added the tea and deleted the lemon juice from the original.
I thought that this gelato would be a bit tart. That is not the case. It has a very subtle flavor. I think this one is my new favorite. It is definitely going to make an appearance for family gelato night.
Here is the recipe:
Pomegranate Green Tea Gelato
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 1/2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup 2% milk
- 1 1/4 cups bottled pomegranate juice
- 1/3 cup chilled green tea or pomegranate green tea
In a small mixing bowl, combine sugar, cornstarch and salt. Pour cream and milk into a 2 quart sauce pan and whisk in dry ingredients. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, whisking often. When the mixture boils, reduce the heat to a lively simmer and cook, whisking constantly, for two minutes.
Scrape the mixture into a medium bowl and add the pomegranate juice and tea. Whisk to combine thoroughly. Chill the mixture for at least two hours in refrigerator.
Freeze in ice cream maker according to the manufacturer’s instructions. The gelato will be very soft but is best eaten immediately.
