Receta Pork Stir-Fry with Peas and Peppers
by Katie Zeller

A guy gave me a bucket-load of shit yesterday!

How often in life does one get to say that and mean it….

Literally.

I feel like a four-year-old that just learned a ‘bad’ word.

Really, the possible photo titles and phrases that have been running through my mind since I first laid eyes on this shit have been endless.

And could someone, please, tell me how to segue from shit to stir-fry?

Pork Stir-Fry with Peas and Peppers

Total time: 25 minutes

Ingredients:

Instructions:

Rice:

Melt butter in small saucepan over medium heat. Add rice and sauté, stirring for 2 – 3 minutes.

Add stock and cook rice for length of time on package. When done fluff with fork.

Stir-Fry:

Heat half of each oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat.

Add onion, pepper, celery to skillet and stir-fry for 2 minutes.

Add garlic, mushrooms and stir-fry another 2 minutes. Remove vegetables and set aside.

Add remaining oils to skillet and heat. Add pork and stir-fry 3 – 5 minutes, until nicely browned.

Return vegetables to skillet, add peas, stock and sherry.

Heat to boiling, cover and simmer 3 minutes.

Dissolve cornstarch in soy sauce. Add cornstarch mixture to pan and stir until thickened.

Serve over Rice.

Well, as they say….

Shit happens.

And this is the shit that happens to be in my potager at the moment.

As I said…. a bucket-load.

The bucket being on the front-end loader of the farmer who dropped it off.

Mon mari said it was still steaming.

I was out doing a 15K walk at the time and missed the excitement.

I’m always missing shit…..

Our neighbor had told us earlier this fall that he’d asked the local farmer for some manure.

I said if he had any extra I would love to have some for my own garden.

When one is talking in quantities of ‘some’ and ‘extra’ about something like ‘shit’ it’s hard to be precise and hard to know what expect.

We got a lot of shit.

Now we have to grab the pitchforks and throw some shit around.

Okay, I’m done now

But I have really high hopes for the potager next year.

This is the first time we’ve had fertilizer straight from the, er, source.
