Written by: 7aumsuvai Raw papaya / green papaya curry, had an opportunity to try this recipe at our friends place. Immediately, bought green papaya from Indian grocery store and tried it. My first attempt was not ended happily. But my second attempt was very successful and satisfying. Goes well with puli kuzhambu and hot rice. Ingredients: Serves 4 to 5 1 small – Raw papaya/Green papaya 1 medium – Onion (chopped finely) 2 clove – Garlic (chopped) 1/4 tsp – Turmeric powder Salt to taste For dry grinding: 1/4 tsp – Oil 2 tbsp – Peanuts 1 tbsp – Sesame seeds 1 tsp – Coriander seeds 1/2 tsp – Jeera 2 or 3 no’s – Dry red chilies Seasonings: 1 tsp – Oil 1/4 tsp – Mustard seeds 1/4 tsp – Split black gram/Ulunthu/Urad dal Fresh curry leaves Pinch of asafoetida Preparation method: Wash and chop raw papaya into small cubes, then cook them in open vessel or pressure cook them for 1 to 2 whistles until soft. Drain water and set it aside. Heat a pan, dry roast peanuts and dry red chilies for a minute. Then add little oil and remaining items for dry grinding, roast till they are slightly brown in color. Allow them to cool completely and grind them to a coarse powder. Heat oil in a pan, season with items given in the list for seasoning. Followed by chopped onion, curry leaves and garlic, saute until translucent.  Now add the cooked raw papaya along with turmeric powder, freshly ground masala powder and required salt, mix well thoroughly and allow them to cook for 5 to 10 minutes. Switch off the stove and serve with hot rice. Notes: Pressure cook method was much easier way to cook raw papaya instead of open cooking. You may increase or decrease the quantity of dry red chilies as per your spice level. Do not add any water while grinding masala for this curry. It should be dry not like paste.
