%20it%20has%20been%20a%20week%20since%20I%20slept%20well.%20On%20the%20Sunday%20night%20that%20we%20were%20in%20Oban%20I%20did%20not%20get%20a%20very%20good%20night%E2%80%99s%20sleep.%20I%20think%20this%20has%20to%20do%20with%20a%20combination%20of%20factors.%20The%20first%20being%20the%20amount%20of%20light%20that%20came%20into%20the%20room%20from%20the%20hotel%20passage%20lights%20and%20the%20second%20being%20the%20fact%20that%20it%20was%20the%20last%20night%20of%20our%20holiday.%20Then%20on%20the%20Tuesday%20night%20we%20flew%20from%20Paris%20to%20Johannesburg.%20That%20flight%20leaves%20at%2023h30%20so%20by%20the%20time%20you%20have%20had%20dinner%20it%20is%20early%20morning.%20I%20took%20a%20sleeping%20tablet%20and%20slept,%20but%20economy%20class%20seats%20do%20not%20make%20for%20comfortable%20sleeping.%20I%20must%20admit%20to%20only%20waking%20up%20at%208am%20which%20was%20great.%20Dave%20and%20I%20decided%20that%20on%20our%20first%20night%20home%20we%20would%20not%20set%20the%20alarm%20and%20so%20Wednesday%20night%20we%20went%20to%20bed%20early%20%E2%80%93%20about%209pm,%20and%20woke%20up%20at%206am!%20So%20much%20for%20sleeping%20in.%20Then%20life%20went%20back%20to%20normality%20and%20Thursday%20night%20we%20were%20in%20bed%20at%2010pm%20and%20up%20at%205h45.%20Friday%20night%20we%20went%20out%20with%20friends%20for%20dinner%20and%20we%20got%20home%20and%20watched%20the%20very%20end%20of%20the%20first%20match%20of%20the%20Rugby%20World%20Cup.%20Saturday%20we%20were%20up%20bright%20and%20early%20and%20headed%20for%20the%20farmer%E2%80%99s%20market.%20I%20came%20home,%20and%20using%20leeks%20that%20I%20had%20bought,%20made%20this%20leek%20and%20cheese%20soda%20bread.%20I%20divided%20the%20dough%20in%20half,%20placed%20one%20lot%20into%20the%20fridge,%20and%20the%20other%20was%20baked%20to%20take%20with%20us%20to%20friends.%20We%20went%20over%20to%20watch%20the%20South%20Africans%20lose%20to%20Japan%20and%20that%20necessitated%20a%20few%20glasses%20bottles%20of%20wine.%20We%20ate%20late,%20commiserated%20and%20spoke%20of%20anything%20but%20the%20game.%20Sunday%20we%20slept%20in%20but,%20as%20our%20area%20was%20zoned%20for%20electrical%20maintenance%20I%20could%20not%20do%20any%20of%20my%20blog%20baking.%20Instead%20we%20went%20to%20friends%20for%20an%20afternoon%20braai.%20We%20then%20had%20a%20visitor%20and%20after%20he%20left%20I%20put%20the%20second%20loaf%20into%20the%20oven%20to%20bake.%20I%20only%20took%20it%20out%20of%20the%20fridge%20when%20I%20turned%20the%20oven%20on,%20and%20I%20was%20really%20surprised%20at%20how%20well%20it%20turned%20out.%20Dave%20and%20I%20had%20the%20bread%20with%20sweet%20potato%20soup%20for%20dinner,%20and%20stayed%20up%20very%20late%20watching%20Vettel%20win%20the%20Singapore%20Formula%201%20race.%20Now%20it%20is%20Monday%20morning%20and%20I%20am%20counting%20the%20minutes%20down%20to%20my%20third%20cup%20of%20coffee,%20and%20a%20slice%20of%20my%20soda%20bread.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E500g%20bread%20flour,%20plus%20extra%20for%20dusting%2012g%20fine%20salt%20300mls%20buttermilk%2075g%20soft%20butter%2020g%20baking%20powder%201%20large%20leek,%20white%20part%20only,%20finely%20chopped%2075g%20mature%20Cheddar%20cheese,%20grated%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPreheat%20the%20oven%20to%20220%C2%B0%20Celsius%20Line%20a%20baking%20tray%20Place%20the%20flour,%20salt,%20buttermilk,%20butter%20and%20baking%20powder%20into%20a%20stand%20mixer%20bowl%20Use%20a%20flat%20beater%20and%20mix%20on%20a%20medium%20speed%20for%202%20minutes%20Add%20the%20leeks%20and%20the%20cheese%20and%20mix%20until%20incorporated%20Turn%20onto%20a%20lightly%20floured%20surface%20and%20divide%20in%202%20Roll%20each%20piece%20into%20a%20ball%20Flatten%20to%205cm%20thick%20Cut%20a%20deep%20cross%20into%20the%20dough%20and%20dust%20with%20flour%20Place%20onto%20the%20baking%20tray%20Bake%20for%2040%20minutes,%20turning%20the%20bread%20over%20for%20the%20last%2010%20minutes%20Turn%20onto%20a%20wire%20rack%20to%20cool%20and%20serve%20warm%20%20%20You%20can%20freeze%20buttermilk%20-%20defrost%20in%20the%20fridge%20overnight.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20used%20my%20pizza%20stone%20instead%20of%20a%20baking%20tray.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EYou%20can%20mix%20the%20dough%20by%20hand%20for%205%20minutes%20if%20you%20don't%20have%20a%20stand%20mixer.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EYou%20can%20place%20half%20into%20the%20fridge%20and%20bake%20when%20needed%20%203.4.3177%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EClick%20on%20the%20links%20for%20conversions%20and%20notes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20Inside%20Of%20My%20Leek%20And%20Cheese%20Soda%20Bread%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBlog-checking%20lines:%20%20For%20the%20month%20of%20September%20Meredith%20from%20the%20Poco%20Loco%20Olsons%20challenged%20us%20to%20experiment%20with%20soda%20bread.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhat%20I%20blogged%20September%2028:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETandy%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETop%20of%20Page%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EVN:F%20[1.9.22_1171]%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERating:%200.0/10%20(0%20votes%20cast)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELike%20Loading...%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERelated%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAbout%20Tandy%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ET
