And Cinnamon holds this saying true to the last word. Cinnamon is a spice that can act as a medicine too apart from giving aromatic flavors to the cooked dishes.

Composition: Cinnamon is a bark of cinnamon tree, which is scraped out and is given a shape of quill or small tubular log. These are normally dark brown in color and have a typical strong scent, which can be inhaled from quite a distance.

These bark are further powdered to give us the famous cinnamon powder we use in our baking and other forms of cooking. It imparts a warm and soothing taste to the baked goodies.

Health Benefits;

Research has shown that just ½ tsp. of cinnamon can lower bad cholesterol or LDL.

Cinnamon has an anti clotting effect on the blood.

This spice is rich in many Phytochemicals such as carotenoids, flavonoids etc. require to control many life threatening disease.

It has a very good source of other minerals too. Iron, manganese are a few.

Helps control the blood sugar levels and hence type 2 Diabetes also.

It increases the memory and activates the functions of brain.

Cinnamon is a very good preservative and increases the shelf life of the cooked or baked food. It inhibits the bacterial growth in the food.

A dash of cinnamon powder in tea or coffee can add taste and health as well.

Sprinkle cinnamon powder on the oatmeal porridge.

Cinnamon toast is a great idea for a healthy breakfast. Toast a buttered whole wheat bread slice with a dash of honey and cinnamon powder on it.

Cakes, muffins, bread and cookies baked using cinnamon powder has a distinct flavor and taste.

Curd or Yogurt can be transformed into an instant dessert with a tsp of honey, any flavored syrup and a dash of cinnamon powder.
