%20brings%20his%20childhood%20memories%20of%20good%20old%20Chinese%20takeout%20fried%20rice%20and%20fried%20chicken%20with%20a%20%E2%80%9Chipper%E2%80%9D%20fusion%20twist.%20The%20plates%20for%20example%20look%20identical%20to%20the%20Chinese%20joint%20on%20Union%20Turnpike%20I%20frequented%20during%20my%20college%20days.%20And%20who%20can%20forget%20the%20neon%20signs,%20that%20use%20to%20greet%20me%20so%20happily%20late%20into%20the%20night.%20Their%20version%20is%20way%20more%20modern%20and%20fun.%20I%20hear%20it%E2%80%99s%20made%20by%20an%20old%20chinese%20man%20who%20doesn%E2%80%99t%20speak%20a%20word%20of%20English.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHouse%20Special%20Tea%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOf%20course%20it%E2%80%99s%20served%20in%20mason%20jars.%20A%20hipster%20spot%20%E2%80%9Cmust%20have%E2%80%9D.%20Don%E2%80%99t%20get%20me%20wrong,%20I%20love%20them%20and%20actually%20use%20them%20at%20home.%20Anyways,%20even%20though%20I%20was%20told%20this%20was%20hibiscus,%20it%20tasted%20a%20lot%20like%20calamansi.%20Sweet%20and%20citrus%20filled.%20Very%20refreshing.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWings%20were%206%20for%20$8,%2010%20for%20$13%20or%2018%20for%20$20.%20Not%20unlike%20other%20Korean%20fried%20chicken%20wing%20prices.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EGochujang%20Buffalo%20Wings%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOur%20waiter%20highly%20recommended%20it%20and%20I%20would%20have%20to%20agree,%20this%20was%20my%20favorite%20of%20the%20night.%20The%20double%20fried%20wings%20had%20an%20exterior%20that%20withstood%20the%20sauce.%20Crunchy%20bites%20are%20met%20with%20juicy%20center.%20The%20gochujang%20is%20earthy,%20the%20flavors%20reminded%20me%20of%20a%20dish%20my%20Chubby%20Mama%20use%20to%20make,%20this%208%20treasure%20sauce%20she%20poured%20over%20noodles.%20The%20wings%20are%20a%20little%20sweet%20and%20spicy.%20There%E2%80%99s%20definitely%20some%20butter%20action%20going%20on,%20but%20not%20the%20usual%20tangy%20buffalo%20flavors.%20I%20would%20definitely%20go%20back%20for%20these%20and%20no%20sharing%20next%20time.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESzechuan%20Peppercorn%20&%20Sea%20Salt%20Wings%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EGolden%20brown%20and%20crispy,%20they%20looked%20very%20promising,%20but%20it%20lacked%20braveness%20on%20the%20spicy%20part.%20I%20wanted%20that%20%E2%80%9Cmala%E2%80%9D%20sensation,%20the%20numbing%20yet%20addictive%20tingle%20on%20my%20tongue%20that%20you%20get%20from%20Szechuan%20peppercorns.%20That%20said,%20we%20still%20managed%20to%20eat%20them%20all.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFish%20Sauce%20&%20Garlic%20Wings%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20is%20the%20flavor%20I%20was%20looking%20forward%20to%20the%20most.%20Yes,%20I%E2%80%99m%20one%20of%20those%20people%20who%20read%20menus%20and%20plan%20out%20their%20meals%20way%20before%20I%20arrive.%20ChubbyHubby%20says%20I%E2%80%99m%20obsessed.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20wings%20were%20fried%20nicely,%20but%20I%20was%20looking%20for%20bolder%20flavors%20yet%20again.%20I%20could%20taste%20the%20unmistakable,%20some%20might%20even%20call%20stinky,%20fish%20sauce.%20But%20where%20was%20the%20garlic?%20I%20was%20hoping%20for%20a%20Pok%20Pok%20like%20wing,%20but%20these%20didn%E2%80%99t%20have%20that%20much%20personality.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESriracha%20&%20Honey%20Wings%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EGood%20balance%20of%20garlicky,%20sweet%20and%20spicy.%20Mild,%20but%20flavorful.%20My%20second%20favorite%20of%20the%20night.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAs%20a%20ChubbyKid,%20my%20mama%20use%20to%20deep%20fry%20wings%20for%20me%20all%20the%20time.%20I%20would%20squeeze%20Sriracha%20sauce%20over%20them%20and%20munch%20away.%20These%20took%20me%20back%20in%20time.%20Though%20back%20in%20those%20days,%20the%20only%20reason%20she%20made%20them%20often%20was%20because%20they%20were%20FREE%20(the%20restaurants%20in%20Buenos%20Aires%20didn%E2%80%99t%20serve%20them).%20%20We%20were%20always%20on%20a%20tight%20budget,%20but%20I%20didn%E2%80%99t%20know%20that,%20I%20was%20just%20happy%20about%20all%20the%20finger%20lickin%E2%80%99%20goodness.%20Come%20to%20think%20of%20it,%20maybe%20that%E2%80%99s%20why%20wings%20are%20so%20endearing.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPalm%20Sugar%20&%20Kalamansi%20Wings%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThese%20were%20my%20least%20favorite,%20but%20that%E2%80%99s%20just%20a%20personal%20opinion.%20I%E2%80%99m%20not%20into%20intensely%20sweet%20fried%20chicken.%20The%20sticky,%20citrus%20drenched%20wings%20best%20fit%20someone%20with%20a%20sweet%20tooth.%20Hubby%20didn%E2%80%99t%20mind%20all%20that%20palm%20sugar%20and%20my%20friend%20S%20actually%20devoured%20them.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EKimchi%20Fries%20with%20Miso%20Aioli%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20was%20fantastic%20and%20unlike%20versions%20I%E2%80%99ve%20had%20where%20kimchi%20was%20poured%20on%20top%20(making%20it%20a%20messy%20plate),%20these%20were%20sprinkled%20with%20kimchi%20seasoning.%20Super%20crispy%20and%20crunchy.%20The%20aioli%20was%20great,%20but%20these%20were%20good%20on%20their%20own.%20I%20was%20tempted%20to%20order%20another.%20However,%20they%20didn%E2%80%99t%20all%20come%20out%20of%20the%20kitchen%20looking%20this%20way.%20As%20the%20night%20went%20on%20and%20the%20place%20got%20busier,%20the%20folks%20next%20to%20us%20complained%20about%20the%20lack%20of%20flavor.%20Given%20this%20is%20their%20second%20week,%20I%20think%20they%E2%80%99ll%20need%20time%20to%20adjust%20and%20work%20on%20quality%20control.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20wings%20were%20on%20the%20smaller%20size,%20though%20I%20was%20plenty%20full.%20My%20friend%20S%20decided%20to%20get%20the%20boneless%20southern%20style%20thighs.%20Given%20the%20price%20of%203%20for%20$8%20and%205%20for%20$13,%20we%20thought%20they%20would%20be%20small.%20To%20our%20surprise,%20the%205%20piece%20was%20like%20a%20bucket!%20(which%20is%20sort%20of%20nuts%20considering%20it%20costs%20the%20same%20as%2010%20pieces%20of%20wings).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBoneless%20Southern%20Style%20Thighs%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThey%20were%20quite%20moist.%20And%20though%20the%20exterior%20had%20a%20lot%20of%20crunch,%20it%20didn%E2%80%99t%20feel%20too%20oily.%20It%20has%20a%20sweet,%20nutmeg,%20cinnamon%20hint.%20Definitely%20sweeter%20batter.%20Great%20for%20those%20who%20need%20more%20than%20wings%20to%20be%20full.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EService%20is%20very%20friendly,%20our%20bartender%20was%20very%20attentive%20and%20gave%20us%20great%20suggestions%20on%20the%20menu.%20Chaz%20makes%20appearances%20here%20and%20there,%20cracks%20a%20few%20jokes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOverall,%20we%20had%20a%20really%20fun%20time%20at%20the%20casual%20new%20spot.%20I%20see%20myself%20stopping%20by%20again%20for%20some%20wings%20and%20beer.%20They%20are%20working%20on%20installing%20TVs%20for%20games,%20which%20would%20be%20pretty%20perfect.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EP.S.%20Chubby%E2%80%99s%20Rating:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eseoul-chicken.com%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E71%20Clinton%20St.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E(646)%20838-6066%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
