%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWho%20doesn't%20love%20a%20good%20grilled%20cheese%20sandwich?%20%20Being%20the%20food%20addict%20that%20I%20am,%20I%20always%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Elove%20to%20find%20a%20new%20twist%20for%20an%20old%20favorite%20but%20how%20can%20anyone%20possibly%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eimprove%20on%20a%20grilled%20cheese%20sandwich?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EGranted,%20mine%20are%20more%20fried%20than%20grilled,%20but%20still!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOne%20day%20I%20was%20surfing%20channels%20while%20trying%20to%20work%20my%20way%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ethrough%20a%20particularly%20convoluted%20scene%20I%20was%20writing%20and%20came%20across%20a%20little%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Epiece%20on%20Harry's%20Bar%20in%20Venice,%20Italy.%20I%20think%20it%20was%20actually%20one%20of%20Giada%20De%20Laurentiis'%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eshow%20but%20%20this%20segment%20was%20on%20the%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Einfamous%20bar%20where%20Hemingway%20was%20practically%20a%20fixture%20for%20a%20time.%20%20He%20made%20numerous%20references%20to%20Harry's%20in%20his%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ework%20%22Over%20the%20River%20and%20into%20the%20Trees%22.%20%20%20Naturally,%20when%20the%20owner%20began%20showing%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EGiada%20how%20to%20make%20Harry's%20Bar%20pierini,%20their%20pan%20seared%20cheese%20sandwich,%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20scrambled%20for%20pen%20and%20paper%20and%20headed%20to%20the%20grocery%20store%20that%20afternoon%20to%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Egive%20it%20a%20whirl.%20%20Needless%20to%20say%20this%20is%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ean%20ultimate%20comfort%20food%20of%20mine.%20%20If%20I%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Emay%20be%20so%20bold%20as%20to%20say%20that%20it%20is%20much%20like%20my%20book,%20a%20simple%20concept%20that%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eeveryone%20can't%20help%20enjoying,%20but%20this%20one%20is%20given%20a%20surprising%20and%20intense%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ecomplexity%20that%20you%20can't%20help%20but%20fall%20in%20love%20with.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Enapkins%20for%20that%20Harry's%20authentic%20touch.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAs%20they%20say%20in%20Venice,%20buon%20appetito!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EShadows%20of%20Doubt%20%E2%80%93%20Review%20by%20Martha%20A.%20Cheves,%20Author%20of%20Stir,%20Laugh,%20Repeat;%20Think%20With%20Your%20Taste%20Buds;%20A%20Book%20and%20A%20Dish%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHe%20circled%20her%20slowly,%20enjoying%20the%20cool%20feel%20of%20plastic%20as%20it%20crinkled%20under%20his%20bare%20feet.%20The%20poor%20girl%20was%20exhausted,%20he%20could%20tell%20by%20hr%20soft%20low%20whimpers%20that%20came%20fewer%20and%20further%20between%20now.%20She%20had%20struggled%20so%20hard%20the%20first%20several%20hours%20after%20her%20arrival,%20it%20was%20a%20wonder%20she%20was%20awake%20at%20all.%20As%20if%20by%20some%20subconscious%20need%20to%20comfort%20her,%20he%20reached%20down%20and%20twirled%20one%20of%20her%20long,%20glossy%20ginger%20curls%20around%20his%20finger.%20She%20stiffened%20instantly%20at%20his%20touch%20and%20tried%20to%20hold%20her%20breath,%20the%20panic%20and%20fear%20ushering%20in%20a%20second%20wind.%20A%20smile%20spread%20wide%20across%20his%20tight,%20think%20lips.%20Who%20was%20he%20kidding,%20he%20didn%E2%80%99t%20have%20a%20comforting%20bone%20in%20his%20body.%20He%20existed%20solely%20for%20moments%20such%20as%20these,%20where%20the%20foreplay%20of%20pain%20was%20danced%20out%20like%20a%20carefully%20choreographed%20tango.%20Ah,%20how%20he%20loved%20to%20tango.%20He%20stopped%20in%20front%20of%20her%20and%20closed%20his%20eyes,%20swaying%20his%20hips%20to%20the%20music%20that%20began%20to%20play%20in%20his%20head,%20lost%20for%20a%20moment.%20The%20silk%20robe%20danced%20across%20his%20skin%20like%20a%20soft%20caress%20as%20he%20moved,%20prompting%20him%20to%20hum%20his%20tune%20aloud.%20The%20robe%20he%20donned%20this%20time%20was%20a%20deep%20jade%20color,%20in%20honor%20of%20his%20guest%E2%80%99s%20stage%20name.%20He%20wore%20it%20open%20and%20loose,%20unabashedly.%20Despite%20a%20few%20minor%20inconveniences,%20it%20had%20all%20worked%20out%20rather%20delightfully,%20after%20all.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETallulah%20Louella%20Donovan,%20known%20simply%20as%20%E2%80%98Lou%E2%80%99%20is%20a%20police%20homicide%20detective.%20She%20and%20her%20partner%20Vinny%20took%20what%20started%20out%20as%20a%20normal%20call%20where%20someone%20had%20reported%20finding%20the%20body%20of%20a%20young%20woman.%20The%20body%20was%20found%20on%20the%20railroad%20tracks%20and%20both%20legs%20had%20been%20severed.%20But%20there%20also%20appeared%20to%20be%20a%20cut%20on%20the%20victim%E2%80%99s%20leg%20that%20didn%E2%80%99t%20come%20from%20a%20train%20running%20over%20her.%20Plus,%20there%20was%20no%20blood%20in%20the%20area%20nor%20in%20the%20body.%20This%20lead%20them%20to%20believe%20that%20she%20had%20been%20killed%20somewhere%20else%20and%20placed%20on%20the%20tracks.%20And%20to%20make%20it%20worse,%20this%20wasn%E2%80%99t%20the%201st%20body%20to%20be%20found%20with%20cuts%20on%20the%20body%20and%20no%20blood%20found%20at%20the%20scene.%20But%20what%20became%20the%20true%20mystery%20was%20that%20each%20case%20was%20taken%20away%20from%20Lou%20and%20Vinny%20and%20turned%20over%20to%20the%20LAPD%20leaving%20them%20to%20do%20their%20own%20investigation%20on%20the%20side.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMaximiliam%20Augustus%20Julian,%20known%20as%20Max,%20left%20his%20home%20and%20business%20in%20Washington,%20DC%20and%20traveled%20to%20Los%20Angeles%20to%20straighten%20out%20the%20problems%20of%20corruption%20that%20apparently%20were%20taking%20over%20his%20territory%20out%20west.%20Part%20of%20that%20corruption%20lead%20him%20to%20discovering%20that%20it%20was%20one%20of%20his%20own%20people%20that%20was%20cutting%20and%20killing%20young%20girls%20in%20LA.%20In%20fact,%20it%20was%20the%20same%20person%20that%20he%20had%20been%20tracking%20for%20some%20time%20for%20committing%20the%20same%20crime%20in%20other%20locations.%20One%20way%20or%20the%20other,%20he%20vowed%20to%20get%20him%20this%20time.%20But%20when%20he%20meets%20Lou,%20some%20goes%20off%20inside%20and%20she%20becomes%20more%20important%20than%20anyone%20else.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EShadows%20of%20Doubt%20kept%20me%20guessing%20until%20about%20half%20way%20through%20the%20book%20as%20to%20who%20Max%20really%20was.%20There%20were%20times%20that%20I%20thought%20I%20knew%20but%20wasn%E2%80%99t%20100%25%20sure.%20The%20suspense%20of%20learning%20just%20who%20he%20and%20his%20team%20represented,%20the%20chase%20of%20the%20killer,%20the%20connections%20between%20families%20and%20the%20devotion%20of%20love%20made%20this%20book%20a%20real%20page%20turner.%20I%20hope%20that%20Author%20Mell%20Corcoran%20will%20award%20us%20with%20a%20continuation,%20especially%20since%20the%20ending%20left%20plenty%20of%20room%20for%20just%20about%20anything%20to%20happen.%20This%20was%20an%20enjoyable%20book%20to%20read.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
