You can make this a hearty meat celebration, heavy with veggies or just a cleansing of the pantry dish. All of my measurements are "ish" meaning they are close to what is listed but nothing is critical so you can cut back on what you don't like and add more of what you do like. Let's just say, "Prepare to taste."
You can replace all the veggies or most of them with frozen mixed vegetables (I do not recommend canned mixed vegetables for anything that a human would be expected to eat).

  1. Take a deep breath.
  2. Heat oven to 350°
  3. Combine celery, onion, pepper and carrots (if raw) with ground meat and bacon then cook on medium heat until meat changes color.
  4. Drain off grease.
  5. Add carrots (if canned or frozen), corn, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper, mix thoroughly and set aside.
  6. Another deep breath.
  7. Make mashed potatoes (Honestly, I would go for instant rather than cooking and mashing them yourself but do whatever floats your boat) and set aside.
  8. Spray a glass casserole or oblong cake pan (or whatever you have that will not melt in the oven) with cooking spray.
  9. Spoon in the meat mix and level out.
  10. Cover with cheese "to taste."
  11. Cover with mashed potatoes and sprinkle cheese on top if that works for you (I don't).
  12. Bake at 350° for 30 minutes or until potato peaks or edges turn brown.
  13. Go find your sheep and prepare to eat.

I would suggest a mixture of leftover cheese. You can put bits and pieces of cheese in a ziploc freezer bag, and add bits to it instead of them going bad in the refrig. I think IIRC that Julia Child did this. Good for Mac and Cheese and anytime you need cheese for most any casserole!
