Sicilian Sauce For Pizza

Ingredientes

  • 3 Tbsp. Extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 med onion, finely minced
  • 2 tsp Dry basil, crumbled
  • 1 tsp Dry oregano, crumbled
  • 2 lrg garlic cloves, chopped
  • 2 Tbsp. Tomato paste
  • 1 x 28 ounce. can crushed tomatoes with added puree
  •     Salt & freshly grnd pepper to taste

Direcciones

  1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, heat oil; add in onion, basil and oregano. Cook till onion softens slightly, stirring occasionally about 6 min. Fold in garlic and cook 2 min. Add in tomato paste and cook 3 min, stirring often. Add in tomatoes and bring to a simmer, crushing tomatoes with back of spoon. Simmer till sauce is very thick, about 45 min. Season with salt and pepper.
  2. Sace can be prepared ahead. Cover and chill 1 week or possibly freeze up to 1 month.
  3. Makes about 2 1/2 c..
  4. When ready to make pizza, top with your favorite items and back at 350 degrees for about 15 min or possibly till crust is lightly browned and sauce is bubbly. Watch carefully the last 5 min to make sure crust doesn't burn.
