Receta Slowcooker Rocky Road Oatmeal
by Veronica Gantley

My mother used to make chocolate oatmeal when we were little.

Yes, my mom who would never buy cereal like Cookie Crisp or Count Chocula, would make us chocolate oatmeal for breakfast. On those days, I always thought she had a momentary lapse in judgement. Who am I to judge, I was getting chocolate for breakfast. Yes, it was in oatmeal, but it was still chocolate.

We loved it, little did we know that it was actually good for us. My mom used regular oats. Probably because the steel cut kind took a long time to cook.

Anyhow, I thought I would step this up a notch by also making chocolate oatmeal, this time with steel cut oats that are very good for you. In a slow cooker no less.

I also added nuts that are good for you also.

I added marshmallows that are not very good for you. I look at it like it balances itself out. You know like two negatives making a positive. Well, maybe not like that, but who cares, we are having chocolate for breakfast.

Besides who doesn't love chocolate, walnuts and marshmallows, did someone say Rocky Road?

I love just about everything Rocky Road.

Eating it for breakfast is even better.

Spray the inside of your slow cooker with non stick spray. (I used Pam)

Combine the oats, brown sugar, cocoa, coffee and water. Set the slow cooker on low.

Allow to cook for 5-6 hours. When your oatmeal is at the consistency you like, stir in nuts.

Garnish with extra nuts and mini marshmallow.

Peace be with you,

Veronica
