%20life%20forever:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESmoky%20Fried%20Chicken%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFrank's%20Red%20Hot%20waffle,%20dill%20ranch,%20dressed%20kale%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI'll%20pretty%20much%20guarantee%20that%20it%20was%20the%20Frank's%20Red%20Hot%20waffle%20that%20caught%20his%20eye%20first.%20%20Being%20a%20man%20obsessed%20with%20condiments,%20particularly%20spicy%20ones,%20he%20automatically%20has%20a%20visceral%20reaction%20to%20words%20like%20%22grainy%20mustard,%22%20%22siracha,%22%20and%20%22hot%20sauce.%22%20%20%20%20And%20the%20man's%20pretty%20fond%20of%20waffles.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOnce%20he%20got%20over%20the%20intriguing%20idea%20of%20putting%20hot%20sauce%20into%20a%20waffle,%20I'm%20quite%20sure%20he%20quickly%20glossed%20over%20the%20part%20about%20the%20dill%20ranch%20and%20kale,%20but%20he%20definitely%20saw%20the%20fried%20chicken%20part.%20%20And%20then%20it%20was%20all%20over.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20both%20ended%20up%20ordering%20the%20Smoky%20Fried%20Chicken.%20%20And%20it%20was%20pretty%20incredible.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESince,%20as%20I've%20said%20many%20times%20before,%20imitation%20is%20the%20sincerest%20form%20of%20flattery,%20we%20decided%20to%20recreate%20this%20delicious%20sandwich%20for%20ourselves%20at%20home.%20%20So,%20a%20few%20months%20later%20(fast%20forward%20to%20this%20past%20weekend),%20we%20pulled%20together%20a%20cadre%20of%20all%20the%20necessary%20ingredients.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESince%20we're%20in%20the%20midst%20of%20the%20Milwaukee%20Eat%20Local%20Challenge,%20we%20opted%20for%20Wisconsin%20grown%20Cornish%20Cross%20chicken%20breasts%20from%20Angel%20Acres%20and%20a%20nice%20bunch%20of%20locally%20grown%20lacinato%20kale.%20%20We%20also%20subbed%20out%20the%20Frank's%20Red%20Hot%20for%20a%20more%20local%20option,%20Off%20Road%20Camp%20Fire%20Pepper%20Sauce.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAfter%20pounding%20our%20chicken%20breasts%20flat%20and%20dredging%20them%20in%20kefir,%20and%20then%20in%20a%20mixture%20of%20cornmeal,%20flour,%20and%20seasonings,%20we%20fried%20them%20up%20to%20a%20golden%20brown%20in%20a%20bit%20of%20oil.%20%20While%20I%20was%20frying%20the%20chicken,%20Peef%20made%20up%20a%20batch%20of%20cornmeal%20waffles%20(our%20favorite%20pairing%20with%20fried%20chicken).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20best%20part%20about%20making%20these%20particular%20waffles%20was,%20of%20course,%20the%20fact%20that%20he%20got%20to%20sub%20in%20hot%20sauce%20for%201/4%20cup%20of%20the%20buttermilk.%20%20But,%20a%20close%20second%20was%20the%20fact%20that%20he%20got%20to%20make%20the%20waffles%20in%20our%20brand%20new%20West%20Bend%20Belgian%20waffle%20maker.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOur%20former%20waffle%20maker%20was%20a%20fancy%20blue%20FiestaWare%20model%20that%20I%20bought%20Peef%20for%20Christmas%20a%20number%20of%20years%20back.%20%20Unfortunately,%20we%20had%20some%20restoration%20work%20done%20on%20our%20house%20this%20past%20year,%20and%20the%20poor%20waffle%20iron%20got%20knocked%20off%20of%20its%20shelf,%20shattering%20into%20about%205%20different%20pieces.%20%20So,%20we%20had%20been%20without%20waffles%20for%20quite%20a%20while%20before%20this%20handy%20dandy%20gadget%20arrived%20at%20our%20doorstep.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20I%20do%20mean%20handy%20dandy.%20%20This%20waffle%20maker%20turns%20out%20perfectly%20golden%20waffles%20with%20very%20little%20skill%20needed.%20Just%20by%20gripping%20the%20handle,%20it%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Etwists%20180%20degrees%20so%20your%20waffles%20bake%20and%20brown%20evenly%20every%20time.%20%20I've%20also%20been%20told%20this%20rotating%20action%20ensures%20that%20the%20batter%20is%20more%20evenly%20distributed%20leading%20to%20waffles%20that%20are%20are%20crisp%20on%20the%20outside%20and%20fluffy%20on%20the%20inside.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBut,%20I'm%20no%20waffle%20expert.%20%20All%20I%20know%20is%20that%20our%20waffles%20came%20out%20beautifully%20golden,%20perfectly%20tender,%20and%20--%20whoo!%20--%20just%20a%20little%20spicy%20from%20that%20cayenne%20pepper%20sauce%20we%20added.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20took%20those%20lovely%20waffles%20and%20sidled%20them%20up%20right%20against%20pieces%20of%20fried%20chicken,%20which%20we%20then%20topped%20with%20finely%20shredded%20kale%20tossed%20with%20a%20deliciously%20refreshing%20dill%20ranch%20dressing.%20%20Another%20waffle%20on%20top,%20and%20all%20of%20a%20sudden%20we%20had%20a%20pretty%20spectacular%20waffle%20sandwich.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EJust%20like%20they%20make%20at%20Roots.%20And%20probably%20even%20better.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20now%20for%20the%20fun%20part!%20%20We%20get%20to%20give%20one%20of%20our%20lucky%20readers%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ethe%20chance%20to%20win%20a%20West%20Bend%20Waffle%20Maker%20of%20his%20or%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eher%20very%20own!!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFor%20your%20chance%20to%20win,%20just%20leave%20us%20a%20comment%20letting%20us%20know%20about%20your%20favorite%20way%20to%20eat%20waffles.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERules:%20%20All%20comments%20must%20be%20received%20by%20Monday%20evening,%20September%2019th,%202011%20at%205:00%20p.m.%20CST%20%20Winners%20will%20be%20announced%20on%20Faceb
