Receta Souper Bowl 2012
by brady evans

Unfortunately, we did not outdo our last year’s performance, but that’s okay. Every little bit helps. And I think we can surpass last year’s total of over $50 by making a small donation, $5 dollars or so, directly to an animal charity of your choice to try and help fill our gap.

So this year I’ll be writing my check for $27 to the ASPCA. Please consider doing something similar.

“He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion. Until there are none, rescue one.” Unknown

Here it goes!

Erin and Erin’s Food Files submitted a lovely Chipotle Black Bean Soup in honor of her sweet black dog, Jesse. I love that this recipe is completely animal free!

I love keeping up with Brie over at Brie Fit and her animal adventures. She’s a cat and dog lover for sure. In honor of those awesome pets of hers, Brie submitted Creamy Chicken and Wild Rice Soup. Thanks Brie!

Angela at Stitch and Boots submitted a beautiful bowl of soup that will be a nice change from your usual split pea soup.

Jean with Mister P. (pea) Soup

in honor of her Mini Schnauzer, Kirby

Mister P. Soup

Mix all the above ingredients together & bring to a boil. Cover and lower to simmer for 2 hours. Stir occasionally.

Uncover & use an immersion hand blender to smooth, leaving some carrot chunks.

Add diced ham, about 2 cups. Simmer an additional hour.

the Boston Terrier!

Southern Pink Lemonade is run by blogger that I am so lucky to have met at BlogHerFood’11. She is so sweet and has a precious son. In honor of a cool cat, Bailey, she submitted Corn and Crab Chowder. That sounds amazing.

The Home Cook at Taste of Home Cooking unfortunately recently lost her best buddy, Dusty. I feel so badly for Sarah. She did a special thing by adopting an adult cat and unfortunately didn’t get the chance to love him for his entire life. Her Hearty Ham and Potato Soup hopefully soothes her soul a bit.

The next entry goes out to a pet recently deceased as well. When Melissa at I Was Born to Cook first planned to enter my Souper Bowl, she had no idea that Vito would soon be passing. Instead of dedicating her post to him she made it in his honor: Stuffed Cabbage Soup.

Sienna, the lucky cat owned by the blogger Suzanne at KokoCooks, was recently diagnosed with kidney disease. She’s got caring parents, though, so I’m sure she’ll be well cared for. Her mom made tomato and apple soup in her honor!

Jenna submitted a heartworming entry in honor of her two dogs, Faith and Clifford. Check out her broccoli cheddar soup!

Have you seen the beautiful baby soup that Cate and Cate’s World Kitchen made? She submitted Tofu Noodle Soup and it looks great.

The Self-Taught Cook blog is new to me but it looks spectacular. That’s one thing I love about blog events: you find tons of new inspiration and sites to follow. This blog enetered Carne Guisada in honor of some special kitties.

Chinese Noodle Soup was submitted by Dough See Dough, a fellow runner. She serves it up in honor of her dog!

Erin at Milk & Honey writes a blog that almost literally causes me to do a happy dance when I see it has been updated. She dedicated Lasagna Soup to the pets of her ‘hood.

The Jey of Cooking submitted a delicious recipe with African Flavors this year: African Peanut Soup. She cooked it up in honor of one sweet kitty!

Karin over at This Wife Bakes. does more than just bake cakes. She cooked up a fabulous cauliflower soup. She also has an intoxicating laugh and a great smile, and I know that from personal experience.

I’ve been trying to track down wheatberries and I guess they piqued Cathy’s interest, too, because she submitted a Crockpot Sasuage and Wheatberry Soup recipe in honor of a sweet pooch, Matt.

Rachel at Fall In Food made a recipe in her crockpot that sounds like a winner: Minestrone Soup. She made this soup in honor of her NYGiants fan, Rocky, the puppy.

Josie at Pink Parsley submitted Crockpot Tex Mex Chicken Stew. Her baby girl is allergic to dogs (but we’re hoping she outgrows it!) but she had dogs growing up. This post goes out in honor of the late Obi.

Coming in last is an entry I received from my best friend, Whitney. I didn’t have pets growing up but Whitney did (and we’ve been friends since toddlerhood). I remember running for our lives from her horses (who weren’t chasing us) and being even more scared of her dog.

Whitney has a pure, pure love of her pets. She takes great care of her dog and her two exotic birds (Eclectus Parrots), Bart and Teach. She has a little guilt about having exotics, though, but she does her absolute best to give them the best life possible. This entry is dedicated to her middle pet, Bartholomew J Bank.
