"Special Sauce" Anyone?
The other day, I had a real hankering for a Big Mac! Upon further reviewing my hankering, I realized that what I really had a hankering for was the Special Sauce on a Big Mac. So lo and behold, I typed in “Special Sauce” into my google finder and tons of recipes came up. This one comes from a McDonald’s Manager’s Handbook published in 1969. It was meant to be used only as an emergency recipe for stores that ran out of the pre-made sauce. This page was quickly torn out of the book, but not before someone took it and made it public the next year…
Special Sauce
INGREDIENTS:
- 1/4 cup salad dressing (like Miracle Whip)
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 3 tablespoons French salad dressing
- 1/2 tablespoon sweet pickle relish
- 1 1/2 tablespoons dill pickle relish
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon dried, minced onion
- 1 teaspoon white vinegar
- 1 teaspoon ketchup
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
DIRECTIONS:
Mix all ingredients together in a microwaveable bowl. Microwave on high for 25 seconds. Cover, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving.
