Ingredientes

  • 1 lb dry split peas rinsed, liquid removed,
  •     and picked over
  • 7 c. water divided
  • 2 med carrots sliced
  • 2 x celery ribs minced fine
  • 2 x garlic cloves chopped
  • 1 lb lean ham cut 2" cubes
  • 1 pkt Lipton's dry onion soup mix
  • 1 x bay leaf
  • 1/2 tsp dry thyme leaves
  •     Salt to taste
  •     Freshly-grnd black pepper to taste

Direcciones

  1. Soak peas in 4 c. water overnight. Add in the peas and soaking liquid along with the vegetables and the ham to a saucepan and bring to a boil over high heat; reduce heat and cook at a brisk simmer for 5 min.
  2. Pour into a 3 1/2 quart slow cooker with the remaining 3 c. water, soup mix, bay leaf and thyme. Cover and cook on LOW till the peas are tender, 7 to 8 hrs.
  3. This recipe yields 4 servings.
