.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECostumes%20(That%20one%20too).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20Chili.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI'm%20not%20sure%20why%20I%20associate%20chili%20with%20Halloween%20since%20we%20don't%20eat%20chili%20on%20Halloween.%20%20I%20didn't%20grow%20up%20eating%20chili%20on%20Halloween%20either.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThat's%20just%20the%20kinda%20gal%20I%20am.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20that%20would%20be%20one%20who%20makes%20no%20sense%20at%20all.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENow%20about%20those%20costumes...and%20making%20no%20sense...%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThese%20aren't%20Halloween%20costumes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThese%20are%20Mardi%20Gras%20Indians.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20came%20across%20the%20Creole%20Wild%20West%20Mardi%20Gras%20Indians%20at%20Gretna%20Fest%20a%20few%20weeks%20ago.%20%20In%20all%20the%20years%20I%20lived%20in%20New%20Orleans,%20I%20never%20once%20saw%20Mardi%20Gras%20Indians.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThere%20are%20Uptown%20tribes%20and%20Downtown%20tribes%20that%20parade%20through%20the%20back%20streets%20of%20New%20Orleans%20on%20Mardi%20Gras%20day,%20with%20seemingly%20no%20set%20route.%20%20They%20are%20elusive.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELike%20Sasquatch.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOnly%20prettier.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETheir%20costumes%20are%20elaborate--meticulously%20planned,%20created,%20and%20hand%20sewn%20by%20the%20Indians.%20%20These%20costumes%20are%20so%20ornately%20crafted%20they%20typically%20take%20an%20entire%20year%20to%20create.%20%20Starting%20right%20after%20Mardi%20Gras%20and%20working%20right%20up%20to%20the%20next.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20headdresses%20are%20huge%20and%20I%20imagine%20very%20heavy.%20%20I%20thought%20it%20was%20tough%20running%20around%20in%20my%20Cajun%20style%20costume,%20capuchon,%20and%20mask%20all%20day%20chasing%20chickens.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECan't%20imagine%20walking%20the%20streets%20trying%20to%20hold%20these%20up%20all%20day.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EChief%20Monk%20Boudreaux%20and%20the%20Wild%20Magnolias%20Gretna%20Fest%202013%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMore%20Chief%20Monk%20Boudreaux%20and%20the%20Wild%20Magnolias%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMore%20Gretna%20Fest%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPour%20olive%20oil%20in%20large%20pot%20to%20cover%20the%20bottom.%20%20Heat%20oil.%20%20Saut%C3%A9%20onion,%20celery,%20and%20bell%20pepper%20until%20soft.%20%20Add%20ground%20venison%20(or%20beef),%20garlic,%20and%20chipotle%20peppers%20and%20brown.%20%20Drain%20excess%20grease%20if%20needed.%20%20Add%20adobo%20sauce,%20tomato%20paste,%20and%20seasonings.%20%20Saut%C3%A9%20until%20fragrant%20(a%20few%20minutes),%20stirring.%20%20Add%20diced%20tomatoes%20(undrained)%20and%20enough%20water%20to%20cover%20the%20meat%20mixture.%20%20Simmer%20about%202%20hours,%20adding%20water%20if%20needed.%20%20Skim%20grease%20from%20pot.%20%20Serve,%20adding%20desired%20toppings%20to%20individual%20bowls.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELinking%20with:%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
