Receta Switchel | Haymaker’s Punch
by Marlene Baird

This Haymaker’s Punch is flavored with lemon juice and sweetened with honey and molasses for a refreshing drink that will definitely quench your thirst.

Haymaker’s Punch, also called switchel, came long before the likes of Gatorade or any kind of discussion of the need to replenish electrolytes.

Switchel, or haymaker’s punch, as it came to be known, was the drink of choice for workers out in the field who wanted to cool off with something with a bit more of a kick than just plain old well water.

Serves: 10

Combine 3 cups water with ginger in a small saucepan.

Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Boil for 2 minutes. Remove from the heat, cover and let infuse for 15 minutes.

Strain the ginger-infused water into a pitcher, pressing on the ginger solids to extract all the liquid.

Add honey and molasses; stir until dissolved.

Stir in lemon juice, vinegar and the remaining 1 cup water.

Chill until very cold, at least 2 hours or overnight.

Stir the punch, top with the club soda and serve in tall glasses over ice cubes. Garnish with berries, mint sprigs or lemon slices, if desired.

I love to create fancy with little or no effort.

Did you know that the hubby decorates the house for Christmas. I have little to do with it. He puts up the tree and decorates the whole room. I sit there while he is decorating and “supervise” . This year we played Holiday music and I served this fantastic mocktail that will be another one of your favorites any time of year.

Who does all the holiday decorating in your home?

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day.
