%20to%20see%20what%20I%20could%20make%20quickly.%20%20I%20was%20immediately%20hit%20in%20the%20nose%20by%20the%20smell%20of%20chicken.%20%20I%20looked%20at%20the%20roasted%20chickens%20and%20they%20looked%20like%20they%20had%20been%20there%20for%20a%20while%20as%20the%20meat%20was%20pulling%20away%20from%20the%20bone%20(indicating%20dryness).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBut%20I%20was%20hungry,%20so%20I%20stopped%20for%20just%20a%20minute%20to%20look%20at%20the%20fried%20chicken.%20%20As%20I%20said,%20I%20was%20hungry.%20%20I%20almost%20never%20buy%20fried%20chicken.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20must%20have%20been%20dreaming%20of%20the%20fried%20chicken%20that%20Yes!Chef!%20made%20once.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHis%20fried%20chicken%20was%20extremely%20good%E2%80%A6crispy,%20lightly%20battered%20skin%20and%20moist%20and%20juicy%20on%20the%20inside.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELike%20I%20said,%20I%20was%20hungry%E2%80%A6which%20is%20the%20only%20excuse%20I%20have%20that%20would%20cause%20me%20to%20buy%205%20pieces%20of%20fried%20chicken%20from%20the%20grocery%20store.%20%20%20%20It%20smelled%20good%20under%20those%20heat%20lamps.%20%20It%20looked%20good%20under%20those%20heat%20lamps%20and%20I%20just%20lost%20my%20head.%20%20The%20clue%20was%20%E2%80%9Cheat%20lamps.%E2%80%9D%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhen%20I%20got%20in%20the%20car,%20Obie%20acknowledged%20that%20I%20had%20made%20a%20good%20purchase%20because%20he%20was%20hungry,%20too,%20and%20it%20smelled%20delicious.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E(Luckily,%20I%20had%20the%20foresight%20to%20buy%20broccoli,%20too.)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20got%20home%20and%20opened%20the%20little%20bucket%20and%20pulled%20out%20two%20fairly%20plump%20looking%20chicken%20pieces.%20%20I%20tried%20not%20to%20notice%20the%20difference%20in%20appearance.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHere%20is%20a%20lesson%20in%20why%20you%20shouldn%E2%80%99t%20buy%20already-made-store-bought%20chicken%20that%20has%20been%20sitting%20under%20the%20heat%20lamps%20for%20who-knows-how-long.%20%20If%20I%20had%20been%20smart,%20I%20would%20have%20gotten%20my%20chicken%20at%20Kentucky%20Fried%20Chicken,%20but%20I%20cheaped-out.%20%20Actually,%20if%20I%20had%20been%20smart,%20I%20would%20have%20gotten%20a%20sandwich%20for%20less%20money%20and,%20as%20it%20turns%20out,%20much%20better%20tasting.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhen%20I%20cut%20away%20the%20thickly%20battered%20and%20doughy%20tasting%20skin,%20the%20poor%20little%20chicken%20was%20cooked%20to%20death.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIt%20makes%20me%20want%20to%20cry.%20%20(Lucky%20for%20me%20Yes!Chef!%20rarely%20reads%20this%20blog,%20otherwise%20he%20would%20cry%20and%20tell%20me%20that%20I%20had%20wasted%20my%20money.)%20%20There%20are%20so%20many%20things%20wrong%20with%20this,%20but%20the%20biggest%20thing%20is%20that%20the%20chicken%20is%20over-cooked.%20%20You%20will%20also%20note%20how%20little%20chicken%20meat%20is%20underneath%20all%20that%20battered%20skin.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EYes!Chef!%20and%20I%20have%20a%20theory%20as%20to%20why%20so%20many%20of%20our%20friends%20love%20his%20food%20so%20much.%20%20I%20think%20the%20general%20public%20eats%20too%20much%20of%20the%20above%20already%20cooked%20to%20death%20meals%20because%20they%20are%20quick%20and%20we%20shop%20out%20of%20hunger.%20%20This%20pre-cooked%20grocery%20store%20food%20dulls%20and%20desensitizes%20%20your%20taste%20buds.%20%20This%20kind%20of%20food%20makes%20you%20think%20this%20is%20what%20food%20is%20supposed%20to%20taste%20like.%20%20Then,%20when%20you%20taste%20properly%20cooked%20and%20seasoned%20food%20you%20think%20you%E2%80%99ve%20died%20and%20gone%20to%20heaven.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAs%20I%20said,%20luckily%20I%20purchased%20broccoli%20because%20at%20least%20it%20was%20fresh.%20I%20cooked%20it%20and%20sprinkled%20some%20freshly%20grated%20Parmesan%20Cheese%20on%20it.%20%20I%20was%20able%20to%20eat%20one%20of%20the%20pieces%20of%20chicken,%20but%20I%20gave%20the%20other%20piece%20to%20Obie%20chopped%20up%20in%20his%20kibble.%20%20(He%20didn%E2%80%99t%20complain.)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIf%20you%20want%20a%20recipe%20for%20fried%20chicken%20that%E2%80%99s%20better%20than%20Kentucky%20fried,%20try%20this.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOr,%20better%20yet,%20%20make%20this%20fabulous%20quick%20barbecued%20chicken%20because%20it%E2%80%99s%20fast%20and%20tasty.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20lesson%20I%20learned?%20Let%E2%80%99s%20just%20say%20that%20Obie%20has%20been%20eating%20a%20little%20chicken%20with%20his%20meals%20for%20the%20last%20couple%20of%20days.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDon%E2%80%99t%20do%20this%20to%20your%20family.%20%20Don%E2%80%99t%20even%20do%20this%20to%20your%20dog.%20%20Just%20say%20no%20and%20buy%20a%20sandwich%20instead.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBe%20a%20dear%20and%20let%E2%80%99s%20just%20keep%20this%20little%20boon%E2%80%9Ddog%E2%80%9Dgle%20to%20ourselves%20and%20not%20mention%20it%20to%20Y!C!%20%20Thanks.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELike%20Loading...%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERelated%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
