Dear Food Diary:
Konnichiwa! After almost 14 hrs non-stop on Delta, another hour on the limo bus to Tokyo and a 15min subway ride, StalkerBoy and I were finally reunited.
Drizzling and gloomy, we walked around his hotel (my new home for the next 50 days) and found a small ramen shop across from the Akihabara Station. No English sign, the Chinese characters I managed to grasp indicated pork bone broth and soy sauce. Yes, please.

%20and%20found%20a%20small%20ramen%20shop%20across%20from%20the%20Akihabara%20Station.%20No%20English%20sign,%20the%20Chinese%20characters%20I%20managed%20to%20grasp%20indicated%20pork%20bone%20broth%20and%20soy%20sauce.%20Yes,%20please.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIt%20hit%20the%20spot%E2%80%A6%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20name%20says%20%E2%80%9CTae%E2%80%9D%20something,%20this%20Chubby%E2%80%99s%20Chinese%20is%20somewhat%20limited.%20I%20tried%20to%20look%20up%20the%20place%20online,%20but%20was%20unsuccessful.%20A%20tiny%20little%20unassuming%20spot%20on%20a%20pedestrian%20alley%20like%20street.%20Vending%20machine%20style%20ordering%20(thank%20goodness%20for%20pictures),%20you%20find%20a%20seat%20and%20wait%20for%20your%20bowl%20of%20soupy%20goodness.%20Small%20bowl%20for%20about%20$8%20and%20large%20for%20$12%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20always%20enjoy%20counter,%20where%20the%20action%20takes%20place.%20Though%20limited%20space,%20there%E2%80%99s%20also%20seating%20upstairs.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERich%20fatty%20pork%20broth,%20with%20the%20usual%20toppings%20of%20pork,%20soy%20eggs%20(look%20at%20that%20bright%20sexy%20yolk!),%20seaweed,%20black%20ear%20wood%20mushrooms%20and%20scallions.%20Flavorful%20but%20on%20the%20salty%20side,%20which%20seems%20to%20be%20my%20common%20complaint%20about%20ramen%20in%20general.%20Good%20nonetheless.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhat%20really%20stood%20out%20were%20their%20noodle.%20StalkerBoy%20and%20I%20never%20had%20any%20this%20thick%20and%20chunky.%20Like%20the%20sumo%20of%20all%20ramen%20noodles.%20Super%20springy,%20bouncy%20and%20perfectly%20al%20dente.%20It%E2%80%99s%20was%20obvious,%20the%20noodle%20is%20their%20star.%20The%20salty%20broth%20coated%20each%20strip%20nicely,%20giving%20them%20enough%20flavor%20but%20allowing%20them%20to%20shine.%20Though%20a%20spoonful%20with%20all%20the%20ingredients%20was%20my%20preferred%20way%20to%20slurp%20down.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELike%20I%20said,%20it%20really%20hit%20the%20spot.%20And%20the%20noodles%20were%20just%20so%20good.%20Since%20it%E2%80%99s%20close%20by,%20I%E2%80%99m%20sure%20we%20will%20be%20back.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EP.S.%20Chubby%E2%80%99s%20Rating:%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20(over%20all,%20but%20the%20noodles%20alone%20were%20a%205)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAfter%20dinner%20we%20took%20a%20short%20walk%20around%20my%20new%20%E2%80%9Cneighborhood%E2%80%9D%20Akihabara.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThere%E2%80%99s%20a%20Gyu%20Kaku%20and%20Beard%20Papa%20around%20but%20Akihabara%20is%20best%20known%20for%20it%E2%80%99s%20electronic%20town,%20manga%20stores%20and%20apparently%20Maid%20Cafe!?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EGirls%20dressed%20as%20cute%20under%20aged%20French%20maids.%20Yup,%20that%E2%80%99s%20the%20whole%20concept.%20I%20guess%20it%E2%80%99s%20like%20the%20Hooters%20of%20Tokyo?!%20As%20we%20passed%20by%20them%20on%20the%20street,%20their%20high%20pitched%20voices%20were%20like%20cartoon%20character,%20quite%20unnatural.%20At%20the%20Cafe%20you%20can%20pay%20extra%20to%20engage%20in%20conversation%20with%20the%20gals.%20Fascinating.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESo,%20this%20is%20what%20guys%20here%20fantasize?%20I%20don%E2%80%99t%20get%20it,%20but%20hey,%20what%20do%20I%20know%E2%80%A6%20I%20am%20however%20mildly%20curious,%20ok,%20more%20than%20mildly.%20Maybe%20I%E2%80%99ll%20convince%20StakerBoy%20and%20his%20coworkers%20to%20go%20with%20me%20one%20day.%20Assuming%20girls%20are%20allowed.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EExcited%20as%20ever%20to%20be%20here.%20O%20yasumi%20nasai.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
