StalkerBoy’s coworker stumbled upon Kitchen Tachikichi by accident right before I came to Tokyo. Since then, they’ve become “regulars” in a short period of time. Raving about the juicy aged Japanese beef and the best pork fat. While taunting me with mouthwatering photos via Facetime.
We made plans to go the minute I landed. On our date night at Roppongi Hills, I finally had a bite…and…ohhh! The boys were right, that pork fat was the best I’ve had in my life.

%20was%20smooth,%20rich%20and%20fruity.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20dinner%20rolls%20were%20so%20fresh%20and%20hot,%20not%20warm,%20but%20seriously%20steaming%20hot.%20Buttery%20and%20soft.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20watched%20as%20the%20various%20pieces%20of%20meat%20went%20from%20the%20grill%20to%20oven%20and%20then%20to%20rest.%20All%20in%20all,%20it%20took%20about%2040%20minutes%20for%20the%20aged%20beef%20or%20pork%20to%20arrive.%20Which%20meant%20a%20few%20appetizers%20were%20needed%20to%20keep%20our%20palates%20entertained.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThey%20proudly%20serve%20fresh%20organic%20vegetables.%20This%20was%20a%20seasonal%20garden%20on%20a%20plate.%20Sweet%20and%20enhanced%20by%20the%20creamy%20miso%20mayo.%20Though%20the%20tomato%20was%20so%20sweet%20and%20ripe,%20a%20dash%20of%20salt%20was%20more%20than%20sufficient.%20Simple,%20but%20perfect.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWho%20knew%20I%20would%20find%20one%20of%20the%20best%20fries%20in%20Japan!%20Crunchy%20Anchovy%20FriesEach%20strip%20was%20perfectly%20fried.%20Crunchy%20on%20the%20outside,%20soft%20and%20warm%20inside.%20The%20best%20part%20was%20how%20every%20inch%20was%20uniformly%20covered%20with%20that%20savory%20anchovy%20and%20aromatic%20garlic%20mixture.%20Totally%20unique.%20Finger%20licken%E2%80%99%20good.%20Served%20in%20newspaper,%20this%20was%20basically%20fish%20&%20chips%20on%20steroids.%20I%20know%20it%E2%80%99s%20cliche%20to%20say%20it%20was%20so%20%E2%80%9Caddictive%E2%80%9D,%20but%20holy%20moly%E2%80%A6%20I%20don%E2%80%99t%20know%20how%20else%20to%20describe%20it.%20I%E2%80%99m%20pretty%20sure%20I%E2%80%99m%20gonna%20miss%20it%20when%20I%E2%80%99m%20back%20in%20NYC.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAfter%2040%20minutes%E2%80%A6%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20meat%20was%20ordered%20by%20increments%20of%20100g%20(3.5oz).%20This%20was%20200g%20of%20beef%20and%20100g%20of%20pork.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EYonezawa%20Pork%20LOIN%20from%20Yamagata.%20Aged%20for%20more%20than%2040%20days.%20(About%20$12%20per%203.5oz)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIf%20this%20isn%E2%80%99t%20sexy%20food%20porn%20I%20don%E2%80%99t%20know%20what%20is.%20I%20thought%20I%20knew%20my%20pork%20fat%20until%20I%20had%20a%20tasted%20of%20this%E2%80%A6The%20texture%20is%20not%20melt%20in%20your%20mouth,%20soft%20and%20fatty.%20No,%20instead,%20you%20get%20this%20provocative%20resistance.%20Almost%20like%20a%20%E2%80%9Ccrunch%E2%80%9D%20with%20a%20chewy%20skin.%20If%20you%20ever%20had%20dried%20winter%20melon,%20you%20would%20be%20able%20to%20imagine%20the%20texture%20better.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIt%20doesn%E2%80%99t%20feel%20as%20oily,%20but%20delicately%20fatty%20and%20alluring.%20Even%20without%20the%20crunchy%20skin,%20this%20was%20out%20of%20this%20world.%20With%20a%20little%20bit%20of%20umami%20from%20the%20soy%20dip,%20a%20perfectly%20balanced%20bite%20of%20tender%20lean%20meat%20and%20fat.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESeriously,%20I%20repeat%20%E2%80%9CThe%20best%20pork%20fat%20I%E2%80%99ve%20had%20in%20my%20life%E2%80%9D.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAkahgi%20Beef%20from%20Yomagata.%20Aged%20for%20more%20than%2080%20days.%20(About%20$19%20per%203.5oz)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFrom%20the%20few%20cuts%20offered,%20StalkerBoy%20recommended%20the%20Rump%20over%20Round%20Tip,%20Tip%20Round%20and%20Brisket.%20He%E2%80%99s%20done%20a%20tasting%20of%20the%20whole%20menu%20by%20now.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMedium%20rare.%20The%20beef%20is%20juicy%20and%20tender.%20Sprinkle%20some%20salt%20flakes%20and%20a%20dab%20of%20wasabi%20for%20a%20brightened%20sweetness.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%E2%80%99d%20have%20to%20say%20I%E2%80%99ve%20had%20better%20beef,%20after%20all,%20I%20did%20grow%20up%20in%20the%20land%20of%20beef.%20But%20it%20was%20still%20really%20good%20and%20outstanding%20quality.%20Just%20not%20as%20breathtaking%20as%20that%20pork.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIf%20you%E2%80%99re%20there%20on%20the%20right%20night,%20the%20special%20might%20have%20a%20cut%20that%E2%80%99s%20close%20to%20the%20rib.%20I%20forgot%20the%20name%20but%20it%20was%20really%20fantastic.%20Juicy%20and%20perfectly%20marbled.%20The%20bite%20had%20a%20burst%20filled%20with%20concentrated%20beef%20flavor%20and%20fat.%20Two%20thumbs%20up.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETo%20end%20the%20meal,%20miso%20soup%20with%20petite%20clams%20are%20served%20to%20warm%20the%20tummy.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOverall,%20it%20was%20an%20excellent%20meal%20from%20beginning%20to%20end.%20The%20friendly%20chef%20and%20staff%20have%20workable%20English,%20which%20always%20makes%20the%20dining%20experience%20more%20enjoyable.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EKitchen%20Tachikichi%20is%20a%20place%20where%20you%20don%E2%80%99t%20have%20to%20spend%20a%20fortune%20(which%20is%20quite%20easy%20in%20Tokyo)%20to%20have%20quality%20and%20memorable%20food.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EP.S.%20Chubby%E2%80%99s%20Rating:www.kitchen-tachikichi-shunjyukusei.net%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20couldn%E2%80%99t%20find%20the%20addy%20in%20English,%20but%20it%E2%80%99s%20at%20Roppongi.%20The%20card%20and%20map%20should%20help%20you%20find%20it.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
