.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOn%20the%20way%20we%20passed%20the%20restaurant%20shop%20stocked%20with%20a%20wide%20variety%20of%20bean%20curd%20products,%20all%20made%20on-site,%20and%20a%20chef%20grilling%20aburaage%20(deep-fried%20tofu)%20for%20one%20of%20their%20signature%20dishes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20were%20given%20a%20choice%20of%20lunch%20sets%20ranging%20from%20%C2%A55500%20(%C2%A345)%20to%20%C2%A510500%20(%C2%A385)%20%E2%80%93%20each%20consisted%20of%208%20courses,%20with%20the%20price%20variations%20reflected%20in%20the%20ingredients.%20I%20went%20with%20the%20most%20expensive,%20the%20Tsuki%20set,%20which%20opened%20with%20a%20trio%20of%20Grilled%20Bamboo%20Shoot%20and%20Rape%20Blossoms,%20Sea%20Bream%20Sushi%20in%20Sakura%20Leaves,%20and%20Vinegared%20Mozuku%20Seaweed%20with%20Surf%20Clam.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENext%20came%20the%20Deep-fried%20Tofu%20with%20Sweet%20Miso%20we%20saw%20being%20prepared%20earlier.%20It%20was%20incredible%20%E2%80%93%20soft%20yet%20crisp%20and%20so%20light,%20with%20a%20lovely%20charred%20aroma.%20A%20scant%20brushing%20of%20miso%20imparted%20a%20deep%20complex%20sweetness,%20which%20was%20balanced%20by%20the%20freshness%20of%20spring%20onion%20slivers.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20enjoyed%20the%20delicate%20flavour%20of%20the%20soothing%20Cod%20and%20Pea%20Soup%20but%20the%20green%20chewy%20mochi-like%20dumplings%20were%20a%20bit%20bland%20for%20my%20liking.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EA%20small%20Sashimi%20selection,%20served%20with%20grated%20wasabi,%20was%20fresh%20but%20nothing%20spectacular.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EClam%20and%20Sea%20Urchin%20was%20more%20memorable%20%E2%80%93%20the%20creamy%20lobe%20of%20uni%20a%20nice%20contrast%20to%20the%20meaty%20clam%20beneath.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETofu%20in%20Seasoned%20Soy%20Milk,%20another%20house%20special,%20was%20served%20table-side%20to%20us%20by%20the%20waitress%20from%20a%20large%20clay%20pot.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20simple%20preparation%20really%20let%20the%20quality%20of%20the%20tofu%20shine%20%E2%80%93%20smooth%20and%20silky%20on%20the%20tongue,%20its%20subtle%20taste%20enhanced%20by%20the%20faint%20savouriness%20of%20the%20steaming%20soy%20milk.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EGrilled%20Red%20Tilefish%20was%20fine,%20but%20paled%20in%20comparison.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESteamed%20Rice%20with%20Bamboo%20Shoot%20was%20a%20little%20stingy%20on%20takenoko,%20but%20I%20wasn%E2%80%99t%20too%20bothered%20having%20overloaded%20on%20the%20spring%20vegetable%20the%20day%20before.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESoy%20Milk%20Jelly%20with%20Azuki%20Beans%20and%20Strawberries%20made%20a%20pleasing%20end%20%E2%80%93%20the%20quivering%20milky%20cube%20a%20great%20canvas%20for%20the%20rich%20sweet%20red%20beans.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20had%20expected%20a%20higher%20ratio%20of%20tofu%20dishes%20on%20the%20menu,%20and%20it%E2%80%99s%20such%20a%20shame%20the%20star%20ingredient%20doesn%E2%80%99t%20feature%20more%20prominently%20as%20the%20two%20bean%20curd%20offerings%20were%20clear%20standouts%20with%20the%20rest%20being%20pretty%20pedestrian%20as%20kaisekis%20go.%20It%20was%20a%20lovely%20experience%20nevertheless,%20thanks%20in%20no%20small%20part%20to%20the%20picturesque%20setting,%20and%20I%E2%80%99d%20definitely%20recommend%20it%20as%20a%20lunch%20venue,%20especially%20during%20sakura%20or%20maple%20season%20when%20the%20gardens%20are%20particularly%20beautiful.%20Perhaps%20opt%20for%20one%20of%20the%20cheaper%20sets%20%E2%80%93%20don%E2%80%99t%20worry,%20they%20all%20include%20both%20signature%20tofu%20dishes%20so%20you%20won%E2%80%99t%20miss%20out!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETokyo%20Shiba%20Tofuya-Ukai%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E4-4-13%20Shiba-Koen,%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMinato-ku,%20Tokyo%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Et.%20+81%20(0)3%203436%201028%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELike%20Loading...%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERelated%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
