Treacle Scones

Yes, it's a recipe that requires kneading. I made it anyway. And the scones turned out good.
And treacle…treacle is wonderful stuff. It has a warm, rich flavor that adds so much to the taste of the scones. It's definitely worth hunting some down and trying it out.

Ingredientes

  • 8 ounces flour
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 ounces butter
  • 1 ounce sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ginger
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 2 tablespoons black treacle OR golden syrup
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1/4 pint milk to mix

Direcciones

  1. Set oven to 425 degrees F. Grease a baking sheet.
  2. Sift the flour and salt into a bowl and rub in the butter. Mix in the sugar and cinnamon. Add the treacle or syrup and sufficient milk to make a soft dough.
  3. Turn on to a floured surface and knead gently—do not over-knead. The dough should be fairly moist and elastic.
  4. Roll out to about 1/2 inch thick. Cut into rounds with a 2 1/2 inch pastry cutter.
  5. Place on the baking sheet, brush with a little milk and bake for l0-15 minutes until golden in color. Cool on a wire rack.
  6. Serve with butter or clotted cream.
