Tri-tip served Gyros style

For the 4th of July this year I wanted to serve Greek style sandwiches with flat bread, tzatziki sauce, tomatoes and red onions. Given the large number of guests, kabobs would have taken forever. So I decided to marinate Tri-tip and slow cook it, then slice it Gyros style. This turned out to be really easy and was a huge hit. I would highly recommend it!

Ingredientes

  • 4 lbs Tri Tip
  • 2 Tbsp ground cumin
  • 2 Tbsp paprika
  • 1 Tbsp salt
  • 1 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 4 Tbsp lime or lemon juice
  • 4 Tbsp olive oil
  • 2 cups Tzatziki sauce (see separate recipe)
  • 4 fresh tomatoes
  • 1 red onion
  • 12 pieces Flat bread

Direcciones

  1. Cut the Tri Tip into 3 equal sized pieces
  2. Mix all marinade ingredients.
  3. Thoroughly coat each piece of steak in marinade and marinate at room temperature for at least 2 hours or refrigerated for at least 4 hours.
  4. Grill the Tri-Tip for approximately 25-30 minutes over medium or indirect heat, turning at least once. Baste with extra marinade if available.
  5. While steak is grilling, slice the tomatoes in half, face the cut section down, and slice evenly into half slices. Peel and repeat with the onion, slicing very thin.
  6. Take the steak off the grill and let it sit for 5 minutes. Then slice and serve with the flat bread, Tzatziki, tomatoes and onions.
  7. For a sandwich, spoon Tzatziki onto the flatbread, then add steak, tomatoes, and onions.
  8. You can provide salt and ground cumin for seasoning if desired.
