Receta Turkey Brine You Can’t Beat
by Nicole Sherman

I had never brined a turkey in my life and I have never known anyone who has. I decided to give it a try after watching the Tori and Dean Thanksgiving show. I am so happy I did it. Although, it’s a production I will be doing this each year. My brining bag busted on me, then I got it all clamped back together only to have it bust a few more times. I think I wore more turkey brine than the turkey did, but it was worth it.

My turkey turned out tender and delicious and over the top juicy. I never thought a turkey could be so juicy! I didn’t exactly follow the recipe that is the original recipe source. I added a few different spices and left one out because I didn’t have it I also added orange slices, but that is just me!! You can really add anything you want that makes me happy.

Ingredients:

Directions:

In a pot, combine the vegetable broth, sea salt, garlic powder, onion powder, sage, thyme, savory and sliced oranges. Bring to a boil, stirring off and on to be sure salt is dissolved. Remove from heat, and let cool to room temperature. You don’t want to put it in the bag or with the turkey warm.

When the broth mixture is cool, pour it into a clean 5 gallon bucket, a very large pot, or even a brining bag which is what I used. Stir in the ice water.

Wash the turkey over multiple times. You can do it inside of the brining bag if you are using one and dry your turkey. Make sure you have removed the innards and discard or save for later. Place the turkey, breast down, into the brine. Make sure that the cavity gets filled. Place the container you are using in the refrigerator overnight.

Remove the turkey carefully draining off the excess brine and pat dry. Discard excess brine. You will want to wash your turkey multiple times to make sure all of the brine is off the turkey. You don’t want your turkey to be too salty.

According to this turkey a brined turkeys cook 20 to 30 minutes faster. Who knew?? You will cook your turkey for 13-15 minutes per pound or until your turkey reaches 165 degrees to 175 degrees.
