Receta Twisty Breadsticks
by Sid's Sea Palm Cooking

I have to admit, right off the bat, this post is more of a 'how to' than an actual recipe.

But I did do some fun stuff.

I was going to make these really cool 'snakes' for Halloween, the ambition was there, but I got sideswiped by time.

So...

I'd been to the big city the day before, and had picked up some pizza dough, you know the kind they sell in little bags in the bakery. All you have to do is roll it out and bake it with your toppings.

So, I did. With one of the bags of dough. And it was good.

But, I wanted to do this fun thing with the rest of the dough. I wanted to make these really cute twisty looking snakes I'd seen somewhere on the net.

But as I said, I ran out of time, I just had to get them made and baked. And after making a bunch of the twisty breadsticks, I got tired, and tried to think of a container I could put the pizza sauce in to serve the breadsticks. Well, gee, I made one out of the pizza dough and guess what? It worked. I also made a cute little buggy spider looking thing, and that one never really worked that well, it just looked cool.

To start with, divide up your dough. I had a pound of dough, and divided it up into 16 pieces. I made a little rope out of each piece and twisted it around a greased bamboo pick. I'd actually sprayed them with a non stick coating.

Continue until you have a pan full. Bake at 375 for about 12-15 minutes, or until the breadsticks are done.

Mine browned on the bottom, but didn't get much color on the top.

Now for the fun part. Just twist that bamboo pick a little, and pull straight out. You end up with a lovely curly breadstick.

And yes, I did get a little carried away.

I made this creepy looking critter.

Which didn't turn out quite like I thought it should.

So, since I still had a little dough left, I made a ball, and baked that.

Hollowed it out, and filled it with a really good pizza sauce for dipping.

And for fun, after the first batch of breadsticks finished baking, I took equal amounts of melted butter and some Wild Mushroom and Sage infused Olive Oil from Smashing Olive, added some crushed dried herbs and a sprinkle of garlic powder and brushed the breadsticks with that. And I'm not being compensated for using stuff from Smashing Olive, I just love their oils and vinegars and I'm having so much fun with them as well.

I will be doing that again. Next time however, I'll make up my own breadstick dough. I can't go to the 'big city' all the time to shop.
