%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERevisiting%20old%20posts%20with%20new%20pictures%20is%20something%20that%20I%20have%20been%20planning%20to%20do%20for%20quite%20some%20time%20now.%20But%20time%20seems%20to%20be%20of%20premium%20these%20days%20and%20since%20I%20can't%20even%20catch%20up%20with%20the%20present,%20past%20keeps%20waiting.%20So%20this%20week's%20theme%20is%20perfect%20as%20it%20lets%20me%20update%20some%20of%20my%20very%20old%20posts%20that%20are%20in%20dire%20need%20of%20better%20pictures.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhen%20I%20started%20blogging%20almost%208%20years%20ago,%20I%20didn't%20have%20any%20props%20and%20I%20didn't%20even%20think%20of%20buying%20any%20props%20for%20blogging.%20All%20I%20used%20to%20do%20was%20cook%20at%20night%20and%20click%20with%20the%20flash%20glaring%20right%20onto%20the%20plate.%20Didn't%20realize%20that%20food%20needs%20to%20be%20presented%20in%20an%20appetizing%20way.%20It%20was%20only%20recently%20that%20I%20started%20playing%20around%20with%20the%20props,%20settings%20and%20the%20camera.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESo%20I'm%20revisiting%20this%20Undrallu%20post,%20which%20is%20one%20of%20the%20most%20popular%20posts%20on%20this%20blog,%20from%20my%20newbie%20blogging%20days.%20Undrallu%20are%20offered%20as%20prasadam%20or%20offering%20on%20Vinaya%20Chavithi/%20Ganesh%20Chathurthi,%20but%20in%20our%20family%20these%20are%20made%20as%20snack/part%20of%20a%20meal%20during%20other%20times%20of%20the%20year%20too.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFor%20Undrallu:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIngredients:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERice%20rawa%20-%201cup**%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECumin%20seeds%20-%201tsp%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EChana%20dal%20-%202tbsp%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESalt%20-%20to%20taste%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMethod:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESoak%20chana%20dal%20in%20water%20for%20at%20least%2010%20minutes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHeat%20%C2%BD%20tsp%20oil%20in%20a%20pan;%20add%20cumin%20seeds%20and%20once%20they%20start%20to%20splutter%20add%20chana%20dal,%20salt%20and%202%20-%202%C2%BDcups%20of%20water.%20Water%20quantity%20depends%20on%20the%20type%20of%20rice%20you%20are%20using.%20Bring%20the%20water%20to%20a%20rolling%20boil.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELower%20the%20heat%20and%20slowly%20add%20the%20rice%20rawa%20while%20whisking%20the%20water%20mixture%20constantly%20to%20avoid%20forming%20lumps.%20Mix%20well;%20cover%20and%20cook%20until%20all%20the%20water%20is%20absorbed%20and%20the%20rawa%20is%20completely%20cooked%20through,%20about%203-4%20minutes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETurn%20off%20the%20stove%20and%20let%20it%20cool%20completely.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOnce%20cooled,%20take%20equal%20portions%20of%20the%20mixture%20and%20from%20into%20balls.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELightly%20grease%20a%20steel%20plate%20or%20other%20container%20that%20fits%20in%20a%20pressure%20cooker.%20Place%20the%20rice%20balls%20in%20the%20pressure%20cooker%20and%20steam%20(without%20the%20whistle)%20for%2010-12%20minutes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EEnjoy%20them%20hot%20or%20at%20room%20temperature%20with%20allam%20chutney%20or%20any%20of%20your%20other%20favorite%20chutneys.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E**%20To%20make%20Rice%20Rawa:%20Add%201tbsp%20water%20to%201%20cup%20of%20rice%20and%20rub%20the%20water%20so%20all%20the%20grains%20are%20damp.%20Let%20the%20rice%20dry%20for%2010-15%20minutes.%20Then%20grind%20to%20form%20a%20coarse%20powder.%20Alternately%20use%20Cream%20of%20Rice%20cereal%20readily%20available%20in%20the%20breakfast%20aisle%20of%20the%20grocery%20store.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAllam%20Pachadi/%20Ginger%20Chutney:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20is%20a%20spicy%20sweet%20chutney%20that%20goes%20well%20with%20idlis,%20dosas,%20vadas%20and%20of%20course%20undrallu.%20Only%20a%20very%20small%20piece%20of%20ginger%20is%20needed%20to%20make%20this%20chutney.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIngredients:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDry%20red%20chilies%20-%202%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECurry%20leaves%20-%206-8%20(optional)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMethod:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHeat%20%C2%BDtsp%20oil%20in%20a%20small%20pan;%20add%20chana%20dal,%20urad%20dal,%20fenugreek%20seeds%20and%20cumin%20seeds.%20Once%20the%20seeds%20to%20splutter%20and%20the%20dals%20start%20to%20change%20color,%20add%20the%20garlic%20cloves%20(if%20using)%20and%20dry%20red%20chilies.%20Cook%20until%20garlic%20starts%20to%20smell%20fragrant,%20about%201-2%20minutes.%20Turn%20off%20the%20heat%20and%20add%20ginger.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOnce%20the%20mixture%20is%20cooled,%20grind%20along%20with%20tamarind%20pulp,%20jaggery%20and%20salt%20to%20a%20smooth%20paste.%20Add%20water%20as%20needed%20to%20get%20the%20desired%20consistency.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHeat%201tsp%20oil%20in%20a%20small%20pan,%20add%20the%20mustard%20seeds%20and%20once%20they%20start%20to%20splutter%20add%20the%20dry%20red%20chilies%20and%20curry%20leaves.%20Pour%20this%20over%20the%20chutney%20and%20serve.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPin%20It%20Now!%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
