%20This%20year%20that%20also%20happened%20to%20coincide%20with%20Valentine's%20Day.%20We%20don't%20usually%20do%20much%20about%20this%20holiday,%20but%20since%20we%20did%20have%20the%20opportunity%20to%20spend%20it%20together,%20I%20decided%20to%20make%20it%20all%20about%20the%20food.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20started%20by%20making%20breakfast%20in%20bed%20for%20the%20spouse.%20I%20made%20an%20omelet%20with%20caramelized%20onions%20and%20sauteed%20fresh%20mushrooms.%20It%20also%20had%20cheddar%20and%20Parmesan%20cheese.%20When%20I%20caramelized%20the%20onions,%20I%20added%20a%20little%20hot%20smoked%20paprika,%20as%20well%20as%20salt%20and%20pepper.%20I%20sauteed%20the%20mushrooms%20in%20olive%20oil,%20and%20added%20a%20little%20garlic%20powder,%20onion%20powder,%20salt,%20and%20pepper.%20I'm%20finding%20that%20if%20I%20make%20a%20dish%20with%20multiple%20components,%20I%20like%20to%20season%20the%20components%20separately.%20When%20spices%20are%20added%20subtly%20changes%20their%20flavor,%20and%20adding%20them%20into%20the%20components%20seems%20to%20provide%20more%20subtly%20and%20complexity%20of%20flavor.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETo%20go%20with%20the%20omelets,%20I%20had%20some%20mixed%20red,%20white,%20and%20purple%20fingerling%20potatoes%20that%20I%20sliced%20on%20my%20mandolin%20and%20shallow%20fried%20until%20crispy.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAfter%20breakfast,%20we%20went%20to%20an%20early%20showing%20of%20The%20Lego%20Movie.%20We%20enjoyed%20it.%20I%20found%20it%20one%20of%20the%20most%20entertaining%20flicks%20I've%20seen%20%20in%20a%20long%20time.%20Also,%20the%20more%20pages%20you've%20read%20at%20TV%20Tropes,%20the%20more%20jokes%20you%20will%20get.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFor%20lunch,%20I%20made%20club%20style%20BLT's.%20We%20had%20picked%20up%20some%20thick%20cut%20maple%20glazed%20bacon%20at%20Costco.%20We%20had%20some%20nice%20ripe%20cluster%20tomatoes,%20and%20bronze%20leaf%20lettuce.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20slow%20cooked%20the%20bacon%20on%20a%20broiler%20pan%20in%20a%20350%20F%20oven.%20It%20took%20about%20half%20an%20hour,%20but%20this%20helped%20the%20bacon%20remain%20flat.%20This%20was%20a%20good%20quality%20bacon,%20as%20there%20was%20little%20shrinkage,%20and%20less%20grease%20run%20off%20than%20you%20would%20normally%20expect.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20toasted%20whole%20wheat%20bread,%20and%20used%20just%20a%20little%20mayo%20on%20each%20section.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDinner,%20however,%20was%20the%20star%20of%20the%20day.%20We%20went%20by%20the%20store,%20and%20found%20a%20nice%20rib%20eye%20(my%20favorite%20steak).%20They%20also%20had%20a%20nice%20deal%20on%20Maine%20lobster%20tails,%20just%20$4%20each.%20We%20both%20love%20lobster,%20so%20We%20grabbed%20a%20couple.%20We%20had%20already%20picked%20up%20some%20lovely%20asparagus.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIf%20this%20seems%20a%20little%20deja%20vu-ish,%20that's%20because%20last%20year's%20Valentine's%20Day%20menu%20was%20also%20grilled%20steak%20and%20asparagus.%20I%20used%20the%20same%20rub%20(cocoa%20powder,%20cumin,%20salt,%20onion%20powder,%20and%20chili%20powder)%20as%20last%20year.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20also%20grilled%20the%20lobster%20tails.%20I%20snipped%20off%20the%20little%20palps%20(legs),%20and%20used%20kitchen%20shears%20to%20split%20the%20underside%20of%20the%20shell.%20The%20lobster%20tails%20took%20about%203/4's%20as%20long%20to%20cook%20as%20the%20steak%20took%20to%20reach%20medium%20rare.%20I%20also%20grilled%20the%20asparagus,%20and%20finished%20it%20with%20a%20little%20fresh%20lemon%20juice%20and%20some%20smoked%20Serrano%20sea%20salt.%20For%20the%20starch,%20I%20made%20quinoa%20in%20the%20rice%20cooker%20with%20some%20garlic%20and%20kosher%20salt.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFor%20dessert,%20I%20also%20sort%20of%20repeated%20myself%20from%20last%20year.%20I%20made%20a%20sabayon,%20though%20this%20year's%20was%20a%20spiced%20rum%20sabayon.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETo%20go%20with%20it,%20I%20made%20apple%20pumpkin%20butter%20galettes.%20Traditionally,%20galettes%20use%20frangipane%20or%20marzapane%20(almond%20paste)%20for%20the%20base.%20I%20did%20not%20have%20any,%20but%20I%20had%20a%20jar%20of%20maple%20pumpkin%20butter.%20The%20galette%20is%20a%20round%20of%20puff%20pastry,%20with%20a%20layer%20of%20the%20pumpkin%20butter%20in%20the%20center,%20and%20slices%20of%20pink%20lady%20apples.%20It%20came%20out%20really%20nice,%20and%20matched%20well%20with%20the%20sabayon.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETo%20accompany%20the%20meal,%20I%20had%20a%20bottle%20of%202012%20Bella%20Bolle'%20Moscato%20D'Asti.%20It%20is%20an%20Italian%20sparkling%20Muscato.%20It%20was%20sweet,%20with%20crisp%20green%20apple%20and%20citron%20notes,%20with%20a%20bold%20attack%20and%20a%20clean%20finish.%20It%20went%20surprisingly%20well%20with%20the%20meal.%20If%20you%20are%20every%20looking%20for%20a%20sparkling%20wine%20that%20is%20not%20brut(ally)%20dry%20champagne,%20I%20can%20heartily%20recommend%20this%20one.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERecipes%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPre-heat%20oven%20to%20375%20F.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESpread%20a%20tablespoon%20of%20pumpkin%20butter%20in%20the%20center%20of%20each%20round%20of%20puff%20pastry,%20leaving%20a%20rim%20of%20%201/4%22%20clear.%20arrange%20apple%20slices%20to%20cover%20pumpkin%20butter.%20Brush%20pastries%20with%20butter.%20Sprinkle%20liberally%20with%20sugar.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPlace%20on%20an%20ungreased%20baking%20sheet,%20and%20bake%20for%2015%20-%2018%20minutes,%20until%20pastry%20is%20brown%20and%20crisp.%20Remove%20to%20a%20cooling%20rack.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELet%20cool%20to%20room%20temperature.%20Brush%20with%20simple%20syrup.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHappy%20Eating!%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
