,%20so%20it%E2%80%99s%20about%20time%20to%20relate%20our%20travels,%20or%20rather%20what%20we%20ate.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EArriving%20in%20New%20York%20at%20late%20lunch%20time%20I%20guess%20we%20had%20some%20sort%20of%20culinary%20short%20circuit%20and%20ended%20up%20in%20McDonald%E2%80%99s%20for%20dinner.%20Not%20awfully%20exciting,%20but%20at%20least%20a%20bit%20interesting%20to%20compare%20Swedish%20and%20American%20McD%20restaurants.%20The%20furniture%20is%20the%20same,%20but%20the%20menu%20system%20isn%E2%80%99t.%20While%20Swedish%20restaurants%20generally%20have%20everything%20on%20HD%20monitors,%20at%20least%20the%20one%20we%20visited%20in%20NY%20had%20backlit%20menus%20that%20looked%20like%20the%20ones%20used%20in%20Sweden%20in%20the%2090s.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20next%20item%20is%20the%20hotel%E2%80%99s%20complimentary%20breakfast.%20It%20had%20six%20different%20pastries,%20iced%20water,%20tea%20and%20(by%20Swedish%20standards%20very%20very%20weak)%20coffee.%20Not%20exactly%20a%20healthy%20breakfast,%20but%20at%20least%20free%20of%20charge.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAfter%20considering%20a%20number%20of%20options,%20lunch%20happened%20at%20a%20deli%20on%20the%20Soho%20part%20of%20Broadway,%20which%20had%20very%20nice%20pepperoni%20pizza.%20(is%20this%20maybe%20the%20first%20time%20yours%20truly%20has%20actually%20posed%20for%20a%20blog%20picture?)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELunch%20and%20shopping%20taken%20care%20of,%20we%20ambled%20back%20up%20towards%20our%20hotel%20near%20Madison%20Square%20and%20ended%20up%20at%20the%20supposedly%20Swedish%20style%20coffee%20shop%20Fika.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThey%20offered%20a%20number%20of%20rather%20Swedish%20foods,%20but%20while%20their%20drip%20brewed%20coffee%20was%20the%20best%20I%20had%20during%20the%20New%20York%20trip,%20serving%20it%20at%20my%20workplace%20would%20induce%20a%20considerable%20amount%20of%20surly%20comments.%20In%20short,%20the%20strength%20was%20in%20the%20roast%20and%20not%20in%20the%20grounds-to-water%20ratio.%20Americans%20reading%20this%20and%20wanting%20to%20invite%20Swedes%20for%20coffee,%20here%E2%80%99s%20a%20bit%20of%20advice:%20the%20correct%20amount%20of%20ground%20coffee%20to%20use%20with%20a%20liter%20of%20water%20is%20120%20ml%20or%2056%20grams%20(1,97%20oz)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20privilege%20to%20serve%20us%20dinner%20was%20awarded%20to%20Shake%20Shack%20in%20Madison%20Square%20Park.%20Our%20decision%20was%20based%20on%20the%20proximity%20to%20the%20hotel%20and%20the%20assumption%20that%20a%20place%20with%20a%20line%20that%20long%20has%20to%20be%20pretty%20good,%20which%20it%20was%20indeed,%20even%20though%20part%20of%20the%20popularity%20could%20be%20attributed%20to%20hip%20factor.%20If%20I%20was%20actually%20giving%20out%20grades,%20Shake%20Shack%20would%20have%20points%20deducted%20for%20the%20difficulty%20of%20getting%20a%20table,%20which%20meant%20sitting%20on%20the%20park%20benches,%20which%20in%20turn%20meant%20one%20had%20to%20fend%20off%20the%20infamous%20park%20squirrels.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFollowing%20some%20thinking%20and%20debate,%20we%E2%80%99re%20not%20quite%20certain%20whether%20we%20dined%20at%20Shake%20Shack%20on%20June%20the%204th%20or%205th,%20but%20where%20we%20ate%20the%20other%20of%20those%20nights%20is%20a%20veritable%20conundrum.%20Possibly%20the%20pizza%20place%20at%20Broadway%20and%2027th.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E6th%20of%20June%20is%20Sweden%E2%80%99s%20national%20day,%20and%20since%20I%20had%20told%20friends%20back%20home%20that%20we%20would%20have%20a%20picnic%20in%20Central%20Park%20we%20went%20there.%20After%20noticing%20a%20flag%20or%20two,%20watching%20some%20Robins%20forage%20and%20wave%20upon%20wave%20of%20squirrels%20run%20past%20we%20ended%20up%20having%20a%20%E2%80%98picnic%E2%80%99%20at%20the%20Loeb%20Boathouse.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20burgers%20were%20of%20a%20sensible%20size,%20but%20one%20order%20of%20fries%20would%20have%20been%20plenty%20for%20the%20both%20of%20us.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAfter%20lunch%20we%20strolled%20over%20to%20the%20Swedish%20Cottage,%20which%20didn%E2%80%99t%20look%20like%20we%20expected%20it%20to,%20but%20nothing%20from%201876%20ever%20does.%20Then%20we%20went%20to%20the%20American%20Museum%20of%20Natural%20History%20and%20got%20in%20free%20of%20charge%20because%20a%20nice%20gentleman%20we%20met%20at%20the%20entrance%20apparently%20had%20the%20habit%20of%20collecting%20his%20member%20admittance%20tickets%20and%20passing%20them%20out%20to%20people%20he%20met%20on%20the%20way%20out.%20Saved%20us%20$38%20to%20spend%20on%20other%20things.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20post%20is%20rather%20long%20by%20now,%20so%20I%E2%80%99m%20going%20to%20call%20it%20part%20one%20and%20do%20another%20as%20soon%20as%20I%20can%20manage,%20with%20the%20rest%20of%20the%20trip.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELike%20Loading...%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERelated%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
